Commute-Murfreesboro to Nashville
I hear different stories regarding commute time from Murfreesbor to Nashville?? How bad is it and what times, I will be going in maybe 2-3 times a week at most and usually around 7am-4pm. I am currently in Atlanta so when people say traffic, I say come on down and try this!!
Just curious on average commute time. Currently I have about 45 minutes one way in morning and 1 hour in the afternoon and that is to go about 34 miles one way

I drive from Smyrna to Nashville everyday. I leave at 6AM. There is normally no problems at that time. The traffic will be quite a bit heavier around 7. I get off at 4. Traffic is heavy but is usually always moving. There are always the occasional wrecks which screw up everyone.

I used to commute from Murfreesboro to Nashville every day, too. I would leave around 6:00am and usually get to my place of work (on Polk Ave) around 6:35 if traffic was moving normally. I would leave at 5pm and if I was lucky I could get home in 45 minutes. Sometimes it would take longer, of course. That commute was the main reason I took a job in Murfreesboro as soon as I got the chance, even with a pay cut. It made me hate driving so much that now I no longer do it at all, and bicycle everywhere instead. But compared to Atlanta traffic it may not be a big deal for you.
Edit: I should also add that traffic seems to get considerably worse on I24 after 7am, just like Semi stated. At that job I made deliveries for about a month, and I'd head out shortly after 7am going toward Manchester, and traffic going into Nashville would almost always be backed up and barely moving, sometimes all the way to Bell Road. I'm sure it's not like that every morning, but it was like that almost every time I saw it.

The above two posts are right on target. I used to commute from Murfreesboro to Nashville and now commute from Murfreesboro to Franklin.

Someday in the future there will be a commuter train from Nashville to Murf which would alleviate some of the traffic issues, but I wouldn't hold your breath for it..

It's a doable commute for you if you're working 7AM-4PM. I commute everyday from the west side of M'Boro to the area around the airport, and if I leave the house around 6:15, I'll get there in 30 min. Coming home, 35-40 minutes, sometimes less. Since you're coming from the Atlanta area, I doubt it will be a problem for you. I'm originally from the Dallas area, and one thing I enjoyed about the roads there are the multiple secondary roads in the metro area. You'll notice the lack of good secondary roads from Murfreesboro to Nashville, but it could be worse.
