Default Moving to Nashville?

I'm a young professional in my 30's considering a move to Nashville.
Anyone have any input on the life/social scene for single brown 30 somethings? I've heard that city is pretty conservative/religious and church is really the only place to meet people or the bars.
Any recommendations on places to live? I'd like something close to Vanderbilt, but an areas where you can walk around in the neighborhood with coffee shops and bookstores etc in walking distance.
Thanks for your input.

After a couple more weekends at the pool, I'll be a single brown Nashvillian. Although I'm not yet 30, I still feel I'm qualified to say that any single person in Nashville who can't find an overabundance of things to do and people to meet is just not trying and probably would not be happy anywhere.

As far as places to live, Hillsboro Village and 12 South are the first two areas you should check out. They match the criteria you listed and would not be considered conservative/religious.

Being that your single you could just about move to any side of Nashville and find what your looking for. Nashville isn't that big so the commute to Vanderbilt shouldn't be a problem. Nashville nightlife is very diverse so it shouldn't be a problem to go out and have a good time and meet people. If you do decide to move to Nashville welcome. See you didn't have to go to church or a bar and you just met me

I agree with Pimpy. If you're not having fun or meeting people here, you aren't trying hard! It's a great place to live. I'm 31 and have lived in Atlanta, L.A., Connecticut, worked out of NYC and spent a lot of time there, and I love it here! Although, I could do without the humidity!

Default Nashville Night life

There is so much to do in Nashville.
Just open your door and walk outside.
Yes there are a lot of chuches, more than my hometown in NY.
Us Episcopalians love to have fun too.

only places are churches or bars? i have not yet found these conservative only bars, but I will keep looking.

like any mid sized city, there are numerous places to meet people:
join a new sport team for beginners
go to book signing/readings
pick up a musical instrument
take a class
ask to be set up
go online (like anywhere else)
meet me at a coffee shop
walk a dog
join Team Green
mostly, go hear live music

I am 32, non religious, new to nashville, and find it to be an great place to live. I would echo others, hillsboro/belmont/12south is the best area to live.

Hillsboro Village would be ideal. But if you plan on buying and the houses are out of your budget you might want to look into East Nashville. It's a very easy commute to Vanderbilt (and to practically anywhere). You might want to look into the Lockeland Springs and Eastwood Neighbors areas. Very walkable and all kinds of independent shops and restaurants to go to. This is the most liberal area of Nashville. Lots of artists and musicians call this area home (and Inglewood). We also have Shelby Park which also has a very beautiful greenway. A walking bridge was just finished (over the Cumberland River) connecting the park with Two Rivers Park in Donelson. Do a search on here for East Nashville for more pro's and con's of the area. Good luck.

Try looking about two years ago. I'm not in that industry, but I doubt that many places are hiring right now. Hopefully things will be picking up soon, though.
