Default Anyone from Fayetteville TN

I met a guy in a bar who said he was from Fayetteville, TN. He said it was south of Nashville and a nice place to live. I'm not sure I could cope with small town life at a slow pace. I'm twenty-one and have lived and worked in the French Quarter for the last few years. I'm thinking of visiting this Fayetteville and moving on up to Nashville for a few days. What can I expect?

Default In Fayetteville, TN

I have lived in Fayetteville, TN for about 10 years. I don't think this is a town you want to go to if you are expecting a night life. It is a pretty small town, under 8 thousand I think.

There are a lot of antique stores a swimming/health facility, a small theatre, a skating rink, small museum and the large Wal-Mart. THat is pretty much it for excitement. There are some places to get a drink or a meal of course, but it will most likely be country western music or in a few places rock. There are some bed and breakfast places I have noticed and the people are very nice.

The area is very pretty, has a courthouse square with small bandstand. Lot of small businesses downtown. Pretty old small mansions around the area a few blocks from downtown.

If you are wanting activity - you would do better with Huntsville, Al or Nashville, TN- - YOu must expect country music in Nashville of course.

Huntsville has many more things to do: Space and Rocket museum with IMAX, Art Museum, lots and lots of night life places from what I hear.

Nashville Opryland Hotel is a wonderful place -- even if you just tour it. It has an inside boatride and balconies that overlook paths, restuarant, very nice you being from NewOrleans would feel at home I think

Fayetteville is about hour and half or so south from Nashvillel and about 30 min. or so north of Huntsville. If you do come down in this area you should see Lynchburg, TN it is home of Jack Daniels, you can tour the brewery, and buy collector bottles for abour 45.00 and Lynchburg has some stores selling lots of Jack D stuff.

Hope this helps

Born & raised in Fayetteville but now reside just outside of the Nashville area. It's a small country town. Not to mention jobs are few and far between. Used to you could work in a factory within a 30 minute driving range. Now, not so much.

Thanks for your responses. Fayetteville TN.

We visited Fayetteville a few days ago when we drove up to Lynchburg TN. It was alot like the guy said small town, kind of slow. My friend's cousin lives in Lynchburg so we took advantage of free bed & b'fast to vacation for a few days. We work daily in the party city of the south so we thought some down time might be different.

We spent a weekend on Tims Ford Lake, went to Fayetteville and Huntsville Al where we saw the rockets and NASA center. The highlight of the Fayetteville trip was a store called Sirs (I have never seen so much fabric in one place, made my eyes itch) and a "slaw burger" from a place called Honey's Pool Room. Tasted good especially if you like mustard. I've attempted to copy the slaw and have served it to a few folks with their h'burgers here in NOLA. They like it, but not in the "can't do without it" way I was told Fayettevillians do.
Then we spent a few days in Nashville where we had some party fun.

When we were in Lynchburg it was so quiet and dark at night. Being from the city this kind of silence and darkness kept me wide awake at night. How do people adjust.

Thanks for your nice responses. I posted this same question on the Huntsville, AL forum and got some questionable responses. Just because we are from NOLA and young doesn't mean we are stupid and trashy.

Glad you enjoyed your vacation. I reread your thread in the Huntsville forum and I think you missed some of the humor of the core group that banters about in there. A newcomer couldn't be expected to know that, but I did want to clarify. Also, I couldn't find the post where someone insinuated (or called) you trashy and stupid because you are from New Orleans. Nevertheless, glad you had a good trip.
