Columbia versus Spring Hill
Why are homes much more expensive in Spring Hill than in Columbia?

Because a lot more people are moving to Spring Hill than to Columbia.

Spring Hill is (mostly) in Williamson County.

Perhaps its due to their stance on Property Taxes.

Are you comparing new construction to established homes? We bought a home in Columbia in 2007, and found that per square foot, the new construction ran about $15/ft2 more than homes that were built as little as 3 years ago. I am told that it is the cost of materials, as they skyrocketed following Florida's 2004 hurricane season and Hurricane Katrina in 2005. In Columbia you get a lot more for your money, and I think that the houses appear to be better constructed. The flip side is that Spring Hill has a lot of young professionals living in transitional areas, while your neighbors in Columbia will be established, but may be older (unless you are moving to a brand new neighborhood). We prefer the mix.

About 85% of Spring Hill's population is in Williamson County. The Williamson County schools have a better reputation than those in Maury County. I don't know if this is accurate or not. If you have school age children it may be a factor.
There are several Maury County schools in the works. Columbia is also an older more established community than Spring Hill. The joke here is that everyone in Spring Hill comes from somewhere else. If that bothers you go to Columbia. We have lived in Spring Hill for over five years and like it. One problem we have is that there are many things you can't buy here.
Roads are a major problem for both towns. To get to Franklin or Nashville you must go through or by Spring Hill. From about 7-8:30 a.m. it's a zoo on the roads. When you come home in the evening it's worse. That will be true for several more years.

Spring Hill is mostly located in Williamson County so you are paying for a name. The schools in Williamson County are not necessarily better than those in Maury County unless you want to base everything on test scores, which in my opinion, only paints a partial picture.

Columbia
I was wondering how the schools for kids are in Columbia, such as the Private schools. Columbia Christian Academy..or Zion?
Is Columbia a growing and thriving city/town?
