What is everyone doing to celebrate? Where are the best fireworks?

Yep, downtown at Riverfront Park has one of the best fireworks shows in the country. There are free concerts throughout the day. If you go, bring a stadium chair and some sunscreen; it seems like it's always very hot that day (not surprising since it's July).
If you want something on a smaller scale you can come out to Red Caboose Park in Bellevue. It's a smaller version of the shows and fireworks at Riverfront. If you have kids there's also a kiddie park there that all the smaller kids love.

We're doing dinner on the General Jackson, which cruises to downtown for the fireworks show.

Nashville Hot Chicken Festival: Home Page
It is Saturday, 11-3 in East Park. Proceeds go to benefit one of the best parks in town: Shelby Park. East Park is also a great place to view the fireworks downtown.

I second on the Hot Chicken! In addition to what Carol already mentioned - it's much easier to find FREE parking!

A big third motion on the Hot Chicken Festival. Live music, a Yazoo Beer tent, and plenty of spicy hot chicken and fish from the likes of Princes, Boltons, Eastside Fish, Otters and others (including some places from the Boro). After the festival walk down to Five Points and enjoy a beverage at 3 Crow Bar, Beyond the Edge, Red Door Saloon East, Mad Donnas or The Lipstick Lounge. Then it's an easy walk back to East Park for the fireworks, and there's plenty of room to sit down (with folding chairs) unlike downtown.

#1... I'd like to give the Hot Chicken Festival a bump.
#2... I'd like to get off this Antioch insanity.

I know everyone's bumped the Hot Chicken Festival...but here's a good article about it in today's City Paper
