I hope you're use of "wacko" was offered with affection as these fine people deserve as much respect as we can offer. Lol, I'm thinking that being from NOLA that wackos (affectionately offered, of course) would be most welcome. At least they're interesting and fun.
I know nothing of gumbo parties. Sounds too high in cholesterol for me.

Oh, and I'd like to add another yat to the list, by way of Slidell and Mandeville.
I'd like to tell ya what part of town I'll be moving to later this month, but I won't know that until after this weekend.

Well could be another Metairie family (Via Connecticut) moving to Nashville area. Left NOLA in 2002 and now ready to get out of New England. Been looking all over for a place to land, and N'ville looks like a good spot.

Cholesterol? No way. It's all seafood and vegetables. White rice. It's GOOD for ya, cher. And by the way, I only say Cher because my great-grandmother (my maw maw) was cajun...not me!
FCEddie - Nashville seems to be one of those cities a lot of us refugees are heading to! Notice how most of us stayed in the south???? The south rocks.

Sumwunzma, you don't know how true those words are till you've lived in New England.
My son is finally off to college, and while it would be nice to live closer to him, Nashville just sounds like the right place for all of us.
Oh, and for our Cavalier friend, Raider Pride baby!

Hi! I just wanted to hop in and say that I'm a transplant from Slidell. I love the rolling hills and the beauty of Tennessee, but there is no place like home!!
My brother recently moved back and found a place out by the mall and I still stay in touch with all my neighbors. Everyone is like family.
We moved to the Giles/Lincoln County area because my husband had researched and found that Huntsville was supposed to have really good job growth; however, we've been here five years and he is not working right now and pretty depressed. So, we recently paid off our mortgage and will probably be looking to move closer to Franklin/Nashville so he can find a job since there is not much where we live now and Huntsville doesn't seem to be offering anything.
One nice thing is that we live about an hour from Huntsville and Nashville -- right in the middle of both cities.
Anyway, it is nice to see home folks!

NOtransplant - I just read your post from last year. How do you like the school? We're moving in the next few weeks...finally! How are you adjusting?

To answer your question Sumwunzma, I'm on the fence about the school. As far as Fairview goes, it's a small town. There's a mix of new blood and old. I have found that the old are not very accepting of the new; teachers included.
I also miss my family. They've had lots of health issues this year and it makes me wonder if we are in the right place. It's hard not being there to help out when needed and I wonder if my kids aren't missing out by not being raised with their extended family around for them to enjoy. Then again, I grew up in Mandeville and find it to be very materialistic and I don't think that's a great environment for my children either.

It sounds like Fairview is still very country and they're trying to keep it that way. When new folks come in, it changes the vibe. That really bugs me that the teachers would be that way. It's not the kids' faults where they live. I know what you mean about being around the family but you're not that far that you can't go home every now and again, right?
We'll have to keep in touch when I move next month! Thanks for the info.

How are things going? I'm moving to Fairview next week and I'm ready to meet up with my New Orleans people!!!! I'd love to have a weekend get together at a park (Bowie?) maybe so I can be around people who understand what it means to miss New Orleans....
Reply to me here and we'll figure it out!!!
