You can also check realtracs.com for rental listings. When you're here this weekend check out the areas you mentioned where you're seeing homes in your price range. Drive through at different times of day and night. You can also look at the crime map here: http://pdmap2.police.nashville.org

I'd also look into the Woodbine/Flat Rock areas in 37211. They're also off Nolensville Rd like Paragon Mills, but closer to town. It's a diverse neighborhood. I think it's safe. I own two rental properties there. One of the tenants actually wants to buy them. The councilwoman over there Anna Page is really invested in the community and working hard to get it back to it's glory days. They're currently having meetings about changing the zoning in that area to a special SP zoning which has been implemented in East Nashville - where things are getting better every day. Woodbine/Flat Rock is also close to Berry Hill which is one of your areas you mentioned.

One of my tenants at another property is a mechanic and has had a tough time lately. He paid his rent on time for 8 years, and worked at the same job for probably 5 of those 8 years and last year his boss just couldn't pay him anymore. He then was out of work for a while, but since he had such a good history I've been letting him slooooooowly catch up on his rent. Shipping/receiving may be hard to get here now as well. Another tenant works at a manufacturing plant (cabinets) and they've laid off so many people. I'd look into package delivery like FedEx or UPS. I think I always see that they're hiring.

Lot's of good information Marilyn. Thank you. I'm looking at an apt complex near where you're speaking of. Twin Oaks apartments. Is that a good area?

Also thank you for the job suggestion I have worked at UPS before so I am familiar with how they work.
My strongest career points are my mechanical/electrical (12 volt systems) knowledge as well as my computer knowledge (Oracle Apps, Agile, Microsoft Office)

Sorry for bringing this to the top again...

I made my visit and wow. That is all I can say right now. Wow. It was beautiful. The area outside the city was beautiful. The people were so amazingly friendly. I felt it was a very clean city. I drove around a lot of the city as well as the outskirts and really like everything I saw.

Prices of houses/apartments are a bit higher as you get closer to the city. I saw some places of interest. I've switched my focus a little after talking to a lot of people while I was down there. While no one really suggested locations other than south toward Murfreesboro I would like to know the general opinion of Hendersonville. I drove around there a little on my way back home to Ohio and thought that it was a very quiet but pretty suburb and still only a 20 minute drive to downtown. Are there any major manufacturing facilities there? Being a suburb the crime is lower and real estate is less expensive? Pro's and con's of Hendersonville?

Anything in East Nashville for $100K will a crack house or a dump. The 37217 zip has some houses under $100K. Its not the best area but its far from the worse. I would consider most of the area near Priest Lake safe. Search realtracs and if you find something let us know.

Hendersonville is nice. If your price range is still under $100K you might not have much luck.

Hendersonville is a nice area. There's no violent crime and very little other crime. There's not much manufacturing here, mostly offices...I believe there's one factory that makes bicycles. However, you would be close to Gallatin which has quite a bit of manufacturing facilities. You might be able to find a home in the Glen Oaks Subdivision or Evergreen Circle area for under 150K. You will probably be priced out of most other parts of the city. While this is probably the least "desireable" area of Hendersonville, it offers quick access to I-65 and quick access to shopping at the new Glenbrook area. (Kroger, Target, World Market, Kohls, etc.)

Hendersonville was recently ranked as one of the top 10 cities for families by Family Circle magazine. So, you'll find a fairly quiet community that is very focused on family life and very kid friendly. It's also located on Old Hickory Lake so there are a lot of recreational opportunities.

The population is about 50,000 and most of those people work in Nashville so traffic will be an issue.
