Default job in clarksville area, want to rent near nashville

Hi all,

I am hoping to get a job in the Clarksville area (interviewing today), but will be traveling to the seven surroudning counties with the job. I really want to live closer to Nashville and will need to rent something no more than $500 a month. I am a single, late 20's female, and don't mind a 30 minute commute. Any suggestions?? If I look on craigslist at roommates, what areas would be okay?

Thank you!!

At $500 a month you may not have the luxury of choosing the best location. A roommate deal will help but that presents its own set of problems. You might have better luck closer to Clarksville.

I think your best bet would be in Clarksville. A 30 minute commute puts you somewhere around Springfield, and there's not a whole lot to do there. In Clarksville you'll have plenty of shopping, restaurants, lower rents, and just a 50 minute drive to Nashville when you want to come. You should look around the St. Bethlehem area of Clarksville. It's a nice area, close to a lot of amenities and close to I-24. However, you probably will need a roommate with your budget.

Another vote for Clarksville itself; specifically, the east side of Clarksville/Montgomery County along I-24 from the Rossview Road exit eastward. I wouldn't even look at far north or west as St. Bethlehem; there are enough options from the Rossview to Highway 76 exit along I-24. Most of that area is pretty nice.

The problem you have is that between Clarksville and Nashville, from Highway 76 to where you get into Nashville proper, it's rural, or mostly single-family homes. Then when you do get to Nashville, the first area you come to is North Nashville. An apartment in the North Nashville area could be iffy. It's a big area, so I don't want to paint the whole area with the same brush, but you would have be really careful about where you rented in North Nashville. With those two things taken into consideration, it would mean you would probably have to look even further away for a nice apartment; and that would make the commute to Clarksville that much longer (more than 30 minutes).

The Pleasant View and Coopertown areas between Clarksville and Nashville have grown, and there might be some apartments there, but I believe most of the development has been in single-family homes and a few townhouses. It might be worth it to you to do a quick search in those areas to see if there is something. If so, then that would work well for you.

Also, another agreement that you could have a problem finding something nice with your budget. I don't keep up with apartment rent, but $500 seems on the low side to me.

Okay, so you all were right about my rent budget! I drove around Clarksville yesterday looking at some rentals I found on Craigslist, and WOW, for my budget, I was scared to get out of my car at the places I found. So, I decided I'm just going to have to figure out a way to pay $600 for a 2 BR townhouse over by the mall. I guess cable isn't an absolute necessity! The area I am considering is really close to the Trane plant(?) and right off Wilma Rudolph Blvd on Hickory Trace. The little street seemed fairly nice. I have anxiety issues anyways so I'm feeling paranoid that I may have just signed my death certificate! Would someone please tell me if this was an ok choice?

Thanks!!

You might try looking in Ridgetop or Greenbrier in Robertson Co. They are a 20 min commute to Nashville and probably 40 minutes to Clarksville....convenient to Interstates 65 and 24. It's fairly rural but there are some apartment complexes in Greenbrier.
