Default Looking at Nashville area

Hey all, well I'm playing with the idea of applying to Nashville Metro PD. I am from Delaware and really haven't spent much time in TN.

How hard is it for out of staters to adjust to the city? Also how is the single life because I would be coming down alone. And finally how is the cost of living in the area (mainly housing) and the crime? Thanks for any input I really appreciate it.

I know many cities have been hit hard financially and as such, public services are being hit hard as well. I know a few cities got some government funds, but I'm not sure about Nashville.

In this economy, I would suggest you not move until you solidify your employment beforehand (unless you have enough cash reserves to allow you to move and then live for at least 6 months, if not a bit more...).

Good luck!

Last I heard metro was not hiring new, just replacing key personnel who are retiring. Those are usually the upper tier positions. Every now and then I see a patrol officer position pop up, but keep in mind, hundreds of people are applying for that one position.

What kind of position are you looking for?

If you are under 30, in good physical shape, have a degree in criminal justice or have prior police experience, you'll have an advantage over most applicants. I would take Capo's advice for sure. I wouldn't move here without something lined up. The problem is that when a position comes open, so many local people apply, non-residents are not seriously considered...unless they stand out. That's where the age, degree, experience, etc. come in handy.

If I were a little younger, I'd look into federal law enforcement. The government is trying to spend some stimulus money. The age limit for a federal government job is 35 and they really prefer under 30. I know DEA, Secret Service, Dept of Homeland Security and FBI are taking applications. I know people who have applied.
