Recommendations - Moving to Tennessee (Nashville/Smyrna/Murfreesboro)
Hi all. I live in Lexington, KY and I just accepted a job in Murfreesboro, TN. I start on August 31st and put in my 2-week notice last Friday. So I'm in a pinch to find a place to live. I'm heading down to Nashville this coming weekend so that I can reserve my apartment for move-in on the 29th.
I'm looking to live in either La Vergne, TN or Smyrna. Primarily due to the fact that my girlfriend lives in Nashville. So I would like to see her without driving the full distance each time.
Another reason is that I'm assuming (coming from a college town) that Murfreesboro, TN is also a college town (with MTSU being there). I kind of wanted to avoid the college crowd (seeing how I experienced already). So my reasoning is that if I live in the next city over, I have a better chance of avoiding with college students since they are less likely to commute from a farther distance.
I've done a little bit of research and found the following reasonable apartments:
Summer Creek @ La Vergne
Stoneridge Farms @ Smyrna
Verandas @ Smyrna
Summer Creek seems reasonable, but is located 19 miles away from my work if I take I-24. If I take NW Broad St, it is 16.1 miles away.
Stoneridge Farms is 15 miles away (both via I-24 & NW Broad St).
Verandas is 12.4 miles away via I-24 and 11.6 via NW Broad St.
I would appreciate any information via replies (or PMs) on the above apartments. Or if you have recommendations of other apartments, that would be appreciated as well. Also, about how much should I expect for water/sewage/electric/cable/and other utilities for a 1 bedroom (or 2 bedroom).
In addition, can you tell me of the pros/cons of the three cities (La Vergne/Smyrna/Murfreesboro)? Things to do, shopping, crimes, etc.
I know I'm asking a lot, but hopefully someone can help me.

I know very little about the apt. complexes in LaVergne or Smyrna, but I do want to say a few things about Murfreesboro. It's not a "typical" college town. The is a lot more to Murfreesboro than college students. We don't have wild partying college students running amuck in the streets. What we do have, are some beautiful apartment complexes, especially those west of I-24. There are a few other "known" complexes in other areas of Murfreesboro, but I am not very familiar with them. Specific complexes I could recommend are St. Anderw's Apts., Woodgate Farms, Westbury Farms (brand new, some still being built) and Carrington Park. All are close to everything and very convenient to I-24, which might make your drive to Nashville actually quicker than your drive from Smyrna, depending on what part of Smyrna the apt. is located in. So, I would not completely write offf Murfreesboro just because we have a university in town. One person in this forum lived at Woodgate Farms and another's son lives at St. Andrew's apts. and they have only good things to say about them. Sorry I couldn't give you information on the specific complexes you mentioned, but I thought I'd give you the low-down on Murfreesboro. Best of luck to you in your search and new job! You will LOVE TN!

Hi Faluzure,
I am the poster Steve is referring to. I lived at woodgate farms while I was house hunting. I have no complaints at all about that complex. It is well cared for, the apartments are only a few years old. The staff there was great and really watched over the place, they all reside there.
There are a lot more than even Steve mentioned in the way of apartments here. Anything on the west side of murfreesboro, won't contain a high concentration of college students. They are generally more expensive as well. The closer you get to the college, naturally the more students you will see living in those apartments.
Just some food for thought for you.

Thanks for both your replies! I will definitely look into the areas you mentioned. I'm just trying to get everything done ASAP, so work has been hectic, as well as packing up everything.
Again, I thank you all for your responses!
