Question Southwest of Nashville?

I am beginning negotiations for a job in Nashville and wanted to look for housing in the southwestern area due to having some connections in Centerville, which is apparently about 80 minutes from Nashville.

Any ideas on where we could move a family of 5 in the southwest area that is nice, quiet, and peaceful? I don't mind a 30-40 minute commute, and we are looking in the 150-200K range.

How is Dickson? Fairview? Other areas?

Thanks for any tips!

When you say a 30 to 40 commute, are you talking about to the general downtown area (within the I-265 loop)?

I live in Fairview and it takes me about 30 minutes into downtown Nashville and about the same time to Cool Springs.

Apparently the area is around Vanderbilt University and the Medical Center. So not sure how far I can get out from there.

Traffic is heavy around that area at rush hour, so that's going to slow you down a bit; then you'd either take I-440/I-40 or West End/Harding Road or 21st Ave/Hillsboro Road on out. You couldn't get too much further out then Bellevue or Kingston Springs if you want to keep the commute down to 30 to 40 minutes. Dickson would be out of the question.

I assume your family of five includes kids. Are you going to put them in public or private school?

The best way to get to the Vanderbilt University area from Fairview would be go straight down Highway 100 into West End.

We homeschool our oldest two, and the youngest is a few years from kindergarten yet, so schools are not a major factor for us right now.
