Default Early 1990's murder

Ok now everyone on here seems to know a pretty fair amoutn about tennessee and the nashville area. Some of the people I work with and myself were talking today about a murder that happened around 1993 or 94 and the lady was named Mary Barnes or something of that nature. The story was to the effect of the mother (Mary) killed her mother-in-law and kept her in the trunk of her car on ice. Eventually they found her at a interstate rest stop or truck stop or something.

I apologize for such a morose post but we have been talking about it and I have no idea where I can find the whole story... I've checked the Tennessean's website and I've been 'googling' for like 2 or 3 hours with no luck. I did find a Mary Barnes on record in the Tennessee State Penitentiary who was entered in 1993 and is now deceased but I am not sure if this was her or not, the name could be wrong altogether.

Any information you guys or gals may have would be helpful to my sanity, I'm starting to lose it because I've been looking so long...

Thanks in advance

I like a challenge as much or more than the next person when it comes to searching for info. It's something I'm really good at, but I haven't found anything that sounds like what you are talking about when I search it multiple ways. Nothing even close. I think some of the main details must be different than how you remember them.

If you know someone who's been in law enforcement for awhile, ask them what they remember about the case.

Default Try this....

You might try calling up the local news stations.
I worked for a NBC news station back in my home town, and most of the stations keep copies of scripts and video of breaking news on file just in case their is an update on the story. Good Luck

As a librarian, I have quite a bit of experience searching and quite a few resources. One problem with this search is the date of the crime. Although I have The Tennessean indexed in a couple of our databases, none of the databases index the paper before 1995. If you do just a web search using the Tennessean website, you also do not come up with anything most likely because they do not keep such old news online and also they may not have had a website before the mid-1990s.

At my public library (I currently live in Minneapolis, but am moving to Nashville soon) they keep a clipping file. This clipping file is just what it sounds like, a file of newspaper clippings of important events. I would definetely check with the Nashville Public library to see if they have a similar file that may have record of the murder.

Good luck with your search!

I've lived here since 1991 and don't recall that at all. Not saying it isn't true, but it seems like a story I would remember. I have a friend that was a police office in this area at that time. I will ask him.

I am the daughter and step-daughter to those forementioned. My step mother,
Mary Barnes, killed my grandmother, Betty Barnes. My father Pete Barnes was
also charged but acquitted of all charges. Mary Barnes was deceased in 4/9/06.
I can satisfy any questions you may have regarding this case about my father and
step-mother. However, I prefer to discuss it personally via email and not publically,
which I hope you can understand respectfully. It is a very sensitive subject and one
not easily discussed but I will try to put a quick closure to any thing you many want
to know. I am replying under my daughter's member name. I don't know if this is
allowed, but my email address for conversation is: aladybug_4u2@yahoo.com.
