Martin's BBQ is really good and it's a fun place to go. It's where we take company for BBQ.

I didn't like Neely's when I lived in Memphis, haven't tried the Nashville one.

Whitt's is boring...haven't figured out why it's popular.

Believe it or not, we have had excellent BBQ at good old Puckett's in Franklin.

Haven't tried Jack's yet in Nashville. Everytime we're hungry, it's too crowded and we don't want to wait....and if there's no wait, we're not hungry. GAH!

((Since I won't admit I like Whitt’s here, grin)) Maybe Las Casuelas on Nolensville for sit down Mexican. Friday nights are seriously fun in there. There is also a hole in the wall past Nolensville on Harding Road that we just call "the smoking taco." That's not the real name, but these are legit street tacos. Think they serve burritos too, but that's it. The green sauce is nuclear! It could be that that stuff kills :-)

Anyway, decent spots to try for a kid from SoCal missing Robertos, Albertos, or rolled tacos from El Indio's... (sob)

Judge Beans BBQ just opened in Brentwood. I hear it's good for Texas-style BBQ.

Stay away from Joey's. Pizza is horrible. Very much overrated.

Huge, thick cornbread "disc" topped w/ pulled pork, slaw and sauce. Served with a side of home-cut fries.

Offering up an alternative would be appreciated. I just want to know what you are basing "horrible" off of...

I am from NYC. Unfortunately, I have not found a good NY-style pizza in Nashville yet. You ask what makes Joey's horrible? Where do I start? How about the sauce...it's bland and way too salty. The crust is too crispy. And, they use the wrong type of mozzarella.

Thanks for the photo (although the cornbread looks a little overcooked in that one).

I actually had a mental image of a regular taco shell filled with pork barbeque and topped with a little cole slaw and tomato. Which . . . might not be that bad of an idea.

I used to go to Judge Beans when he first opened over by the Fairgrounds. His brisket was EXCELLENT. He's moved around alot...I went when he was at 12th and Porter and it didn't seem as good. Hopefully, this new location will be as good as the original.

We love to eat at hole in the wall neighborhood joints!
If you're in the Green Hills area you might try La Paz. It's not quite a hole-in-the-wall place, but I've heard it's pretty good. I've never eaten there so I can't say what it's like.
