Default I'm packing up and movin to Nashville...now less than 3 weeks to go!!!

Hi everyone,

The time is almost here for the big move and I had a few more questions.

First, I need to find a new bank. My current bank has no locations in the Tennessee area. (Brentwood, Bellevue, Fairview, Franklin) I'm looking for a bank that has many convenient locations, free checking, online banking, hopefully no fees when using your debit card, over draft protection and so on...Can anyone recommend a good bank or credit union. Oh by the way, I travel a lot, so I'd like to be able to bank with someone who has establishment’s located nation wide if at all possible.

Finally, I won't be able to use my current cell phone provider in the Tennessee area. So I will have to pick up a new carrier. Can anyone recommend a cell phone provider that has excellent coverage, especially coverage on a nation wide basis?

One more thing, I need a mover to help unload my things from the U-haul once I get to the area. Does anyone recommend a particular moving company or know of any that serve the areas I mentioned above.

Thanks, any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can often use your debit (check) card nationwide at ATMs.

I use Bank of America. A lot of their services are free if you maintain a high enough total balance. You might also see if First Tennesee would have the locations and services you're looking for. First Tennessee has a pretty good reputation.

I've used Shipp Moving in the past and they've been great. I don't know if they'd just do a U-Haul unload or not.

My husband travels and a bank that is in many states is a major thing for us...we use USBank. They also have many free services according to your balance. As far as cell service, we use Verizon on a nationwide calling plan. My husband can get service even when he is offshore on the East coast. As far as moving services, I couldn't help you there. We've always moved ourselves even when moving to and from Florida.

Well stay away from Suntrust. They had one account of mine screwed up for over a year (never got a statement, never got cancelled checks, didn't have online access - nothing.) They never could seem to get it straightened out, so I closed that account and opened another one. I recently signed up for BillPay with the new account and they were paying my bills from the old account (that I never even had online access to) that I had closed 2 years ago. Talk about a mess. It's taken two months to get that straightened out.

Bank of America is where I have my business account. Battling with them now. They keep saying a check was missing from a deposit. I've shown them the cancelled check to prove it was in the deposit. Yet, the keep dragging their feet. Still battling this one, and it goes back to August of 2006.

As to cell phone, I have Verizon. National coverage with no roaming. The only place I have a problem getting service is a really rural area in Alabama.

I've hired people to do local moves several times and also just to move stuff. I've always paid by the hour. It was $80/hour for two people if they brought a truck, $60/hour for two people without a truck. This was on the other side of Nashville, though. There are Two Men & a Truck franchises in this area. I would start with them. One tip, though - whoever you go with, make sure you are hiring their guys thru the company, not just having them come out after work and pay them under the table. If you pay them under the table, they are not working thru the company, and there is no coverage should they tear up your stuff.

I highly recommend First Tennessee Bank. I have been with them for 3 years now and am totally satisfied with them and their services. The branch people are all really nice and they are simply great.

I am a Cingular user and will be for a long time. Coverage in the middle Tennessee area has always been good for me.

I am presently living in Florida but am planning to move back to Nashville if I can find a decent job there.

Cingular has worked very well for us for 4 yrs now. Had Verizon before that, the customer service department was difficult to work with. T-Mobile was a joke, I couldn't get reception inside the house with them. I had to go outside to use phone. Never again.

We use AmSouth Bank, they just merged with Region's Bank. We have a free checking account with them, we've never had a problem with them. They practice excellent customer service.

I have had Verizon for over 5 years. They have excellent coverage just about everywhere. I recently moved here and use First Tennessee bank. So far they have been great. They have a lot of locations all over Tennessee. They also have ATM deposits & free checking which were the selling points for me.

Default Reply to questions about banking and cell service

I would highly recommend Amsouth bank, which has just merged with Regions bank. Lots of locations and great offers as far as the free checking and debit card and overdraft protection. Additionally, Sprint is my #1 pick for cell service - great coverage nationwide and really good customer service, too.
