This is probably a silly question, but who is hiring in Nashville, TN these days? My husband and I have been trying to move down to there since last year and it seems no jobs are hiring. We currently live in Indianapolis, IN(completely hate it) and love the folks down there.

We've applied multiple times to all the hospitals (Baptist, St. Thomas, Centenntial, etc) I've personally went to at least 5 or 6 different temporary agencies. We've called people, went on careerbuilder.com and spent a lot of money on hotels and renting cars driving around the city looking for jobs. We've even went to the surrounding cities, Mufreesboro, Brentwood, Mt. Joliet, Clarksville, everywhere trying to find a job. We've been to Insight Global staffing agency, Staffmark, Appleone, and dozens of temp services and they all say the same thing we'll let you know something and never hear anything back.

My husband currently works for a terrible drug lab company for the City of Indy and I am working full-time as a licensed P&C rep for a large insurance company.

With all our efforts we have not had one single lead. It's frustrating because we had a mutual friend that moved there almost 2 years ago and she's had at least 5 different jobs since she's moved there from Indy so we're praying to have the same favor but just not going anywhere.

I've come to the conclusion for now that using careerbuilder and monster is a joke and we should start really being even more aggressive applying to companies direct and calling them up. My husband is starting to think maybe Nashville isn't the place for us but my heart is with Nashville. For the last three years, we've been coming down there and I have fallen in love with the city but I can't find a job to support living down there.

If anyone ANYONE has some suggestions, I'm all EARS! Thanks.

I think you are absolutely correct. Follow your instincts. They are good.

Also, no matter what state you move to, it is almost always difficult to get a job when you are applying from out-of-state.

That leaves you with moving without a job, which is an extremely risky venture in this economic climate or applying for places using your friends address which is kind of lying.

Or you can keep trying.

Take that for what it is worth.

Absolutely.

I have fussed about this in more than one thread. Monster and Careerbuilder are just tools for someone to use who is looking for a job; and for most better jobs, not a very good one.

Yes, research the companies that you would most like to work for, find out about the companies and who to call (a person, NOT the HR department), and then pick up the phone and call them.

If you can network with people in the field you wish to work, do that too. That's harder to do if you're from out-of-state, but you can sometimes at least make a start.

Exactly what kind of job where you looking for in the medical field? It sounded like maybe you were looking for something in the management area, rather than working directly with patients. I'm asking for a reason, not to be nosy (if you like, you can send me a direct message rather than posting on an open forum).

Career Builder and Monster are a big waste of time. I found my position by visiting the websites of all of the companies with displays at my professional organization's annual conference. I spent 3 months with careerbuilder and monster and after I went to the company websites directly, I had a position in less than a month. Good Luck to you.

I am having a very hard time in Franklin, Tn as well
I am from Louisiana.

I have done real estate consulting for 5 years in Louisiana, also bought and sold properties.
I have put in everywhere, careerbuilder, monster, indeed.com
got several calls but several were straight commission and did not say that.
I am very frustrated as well.
I even put in for Mcdonald's Assistant manager , i had a interview yesterday but now it is rescheduled.

Any suggestions would be helpful
What I want to do is buy and sell property here, and build up a business
but i do realize i need a full time job asap as bills are due.

Thanks
