Wife is filipina & we are moving to Baxter, TN in 2 weeks
Just wondering if there are any filipinas in the area (Baxter is about 60 miles east of Nashville) for my wife to chat with. Noticed that there are no filipino restaurants in Nashville and only a few in Knoxville. Whew......gonna be a long drive when my wife gets a "hankering" for home cooked food!

Hopefully she is a great cook and you can have some authentic "home cooked" filipino food!

Cookeville, the closest large town, is 8 miles from Baxter and has 3 Chinese "Buffets", 1 Thai, and another primarily Chinese restaurant. There may be a couple of others I am forgetting. Absolutely nothing Filipino and the Asian/Pacific Island community as a whole is very small. Some restaurant workers at the above mentioned establishments and students at Tenn. Tech University.

I am so curious, why on earth are you moving to Baxter, Tn.? Did someone die and leave you property or what? I feel for your poor wife.

OP. I think you might receive more replies if your thread was posted in the "Tennessee" forum as opposed to the "city specific" Nashville forum. Most folks in that area post in Tennessee. Good luck with your move.

Actually, after working in retail here in California she has become more like me, not fond of people or neighbors! We both just wanted to get a little farm to enjoy peace and quiet yet know that we are just a few miles from "civilization" when we want it.
You are correct though, most filipinos are gregarious in nature and it is unusual to find such a woman who shares my values 100%

Noticed the 3 chinese restaurants there. More importantly, wife is happy that there is a Starbucks, Outback, Olive Garden and Cracker Barrel!
I guess you can't have everything!

Actually, I do all the cooking at home and my wife "loves" my cooking so we're ok there, just have to drive to Knoxville (I guess) when she does get the craving.....

You should be able to find a quiet spot of land, no doubt. But, I'd be willing to bet that after you been around these parts a short time ... you'll come to enjoy people. About the only way you could keep from making friends here would be to wear a sign sayin' '' shut up, don't say hi to me ... I have nothin' to say to nary one of yuns ''. Honestly, fokes in these parts are pretty nice and'll say '' hi .. how you doin' today '' as you walk through the door ahead of them that they will hold open for you once they notice your gonna walk into the store behind them. I've traveled about other states, and I've had fokes let the door slam shut in my face as I'm so used to living here were fokes'll hold the door open behind them rather than just walking on.
