Some questions
I am considering a move to the Nashville - M'boro area, and want to know which areas are cheapest, have the highest crime, where the most jobs are (mainly in manufacturing, though I'd probably start with anything. I am in retail right now, and can likely transfer through my present employer), and which areas are closest to any major transit systems out there? I presently can't drive and need an easy way around, whereas right now, I live north of Memphis, where transportation is minimal at best. Any input would be appreciated.

I would suggest you transfer here with your current employer, then look for something in manufacturing since those jobs are very scarce right now.
If you will tell us which retail store you might transfer to, someone can suggest the nearest areas with affordable housing, and ones that are on the public transportation system. Nashville has a pretty good bus system - if you live and work on the same route. If you have to go downtown and change buses, you may spend more time getting to work than working. I don't know anything about public transportation in Murfreesboro, but I doubt they have much.

Thanks for the info. I'll keep it in mind. One problem I face too in which I'm looking to somehow resolve beforehand is finding a roof over my head. I visited Nashville back in 2001 and have an old street map of it from back then. Was thinking of moving out there then, but couldn't just yet. With p/t retail employment, I doubt I could afford much of anything without maybe having to 3 job it. I'm thinking maybe a mobile home might be cheapest, at least starting out (again). btw, I work at wal-mart. They're all over out here like everywhere else, I imagine.

Public transportation in Murfreesboro is very limited, unless you don't mind calling a cab for everything. We have the Rover bus system, but it's just 2 1/2 years old and really doesn't have very good coverage yet. I've gone almost completely without a car for over three years now, and I have yet to use Rover because it doesn't go near my house, where I work, or any of the places I need to go regularly.
