Before and after school care: Murfreesboro,Hermitage, Hendersonville?
Moving from Cleveland Ohio to Nashville in January 2010 (job relocating). I'll be working in the Donelson area on Lebanon Rd. Looking at housing in Murfreesboro, Hermitage, Hendersonville or possibly Mt. Juliet. My research has proven these areas have pretty good schools, though my research is far from done.
I'm trying to determine how before and after school care works in the areas I listed above. Does schools offer this or will I need to scout out a licensed daycare facility? If a daycare facility I'm sure I will need to make sure my kids will be transported safely from school to the daycare facility. Also need to know the average cost of these services?
Oh forgot to mention my kids are in kindergarten and 2 second grade.
All opinions and suggestions are welcome. Especially those who are currenlty doing before and after school care.
Your help would greatly appreciated!!!

Do a search for YMCA Fun Company of Middle Tennessee. We use it at our elementary school in Davidson County and have been pleased. I think our school's site now has a waitlist, but I'm not sure about the others. They might have openings. We pay $44 weekly for afterschool care for one child. Good luck with your move!

Murfreesboro City Schools have the S.H.I.N.E. program which offers care before and after school. I believe it runs as early as 6AM and offers breakfast and goes to 6PM. It is a wonderful program where the students have a wide variety of activities to choose from. It is an impressive program at a very low cost. You can take a look at www.cityschools.net .

Steve_TN this is very very impressive. Thank you for this info!!! I'm visiting Nashville next weekend an will be viewing Waterford Place apartments on 2840 S church St. The elementary school in this area is Barfield. I did not see it listed on the web site....I took another look, Barfield is in Rutherford County Schools. Do you know af any apartment complexes that will place me in Murfreesboro City School District?

I got the streetnames from cityschools.net website. I found beautiful townhomes (at least the pictures are) in the district. The Summit Townhomes on 2015 Empress Dr. I will definitely visit this community.
Steve_TN thanks again!!

Steve is pretty awesome that way.
Another alternative is after-school care provided by dance and karate studios. There are several that pick up from our Rutherford County school but I have no idea on their cost.

You might want to try Carrington Park Apartments on Rideout Lane...or anything on St. Andrews. It's right down the street from Scales Elem...which is a Murfreesboro City School.

Thanks to all for your replies. During our visit to Nashville we were able to squeeze in a few hours to check out Murfreesboro. Wish we had more time to checkout the city. Anyway, I called Scales and John Pittard and got additional information.
Mission accomplished!!! Now I know how much rent we can afford...we expanded our search to home rentals due to the low cost of before and after school care....this is, of course compared to what we are currently paying for private Kindergarten and before and after care.
Again thank you all for your help! Much appreciated.
