Default Mt.Juliet area

Hi everyone! Just would like some input on the Mt.Juliet area or other nice comparable areas. My husband may be taking another transfer we've been in Alabama, Michigan you name it. He doesn't mind up to an 1hr 30 min drive to Livingston since that is just one account he will be driving all over the south as well for his job. We made the mistake last move of a relocating to a scenic area but too rural. It was difficult on our daughter and we feel a larger area will possibly have more transplants or at least a welcoming atmosphere. We came to love Al. and our friends it just took a long while to get comfortable. Our daughter is a Freshman and currently takes some Honors classes and enjoys softball so good schools are important. Obviously so is shopping especially for her haha. We would possibly like to rent for awhile also weve had to sell so many homes in the last few years I'd hate to buy something in this economy right now! We like anything from older homes with character to newer homes. We don't need anything to huge it's just us 3 so an area where $1300 and under could rent us a nice place. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much..have a great day!!

Mt Juliet is perfectly nice. Not too much of a "town" so to speak. More or less subdivisions, etc.

Have you considered Cookeville? The schools are excellent and it is home to Tennessee Tech University. Your money would really go a long way there in terms of rentals.

Middle TN is really a great jumping off point for someone who travels across the south because of the interstates. Mt. Juliet is great...growing...close to Nashville but plenty of things to do within the city. I'm partial to Hendersonville, personally. Murfreesboro might also be an option.

I'd definitely suggest renting first if you're new to the area. You might find that there's another part of town that you like better...or that the commute is a bigger issue than you realize.

If we were looking closer at Cookeville what would be the best side of town to be in as far as the best High School and safety etc. I am assuming by the size that there is more than one high school correct me if I'm wrong! Also is it true that this is a "dry" area? What does that include? I have visitors that will come that drink wine or spirits but not beer. I think you can purchase in restaurants, but if were entertaining at home I'll need to know the laws haha. Thanks in advance!

You don't need to know the laws much, just where the closest store is. In any event, it won't be far.

Clarkx3. There is actually only one high school in Cookeville and it has won a number of awards:http://www.cookevillecavaliers.com/ As far as safety is concerned, any of the rentals in your price range are going to be in good neighborhoods. To be honest, there aren't too many bad neighborhoods. There really isn't a best "side" of town. Nice areas are scattered all over the place both within and outside the city limits. This has some good info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cookeville,_Tennessee

Although you can't purchase wine/spirits at stores in Cookeville, you can find liquor stores 7-8 miles away. There also is a new winery that opened a few miles outside Cookeville where you can purchase (and take it home as it is considered an agricultural product (even though technically a dry county). Also, you are correct that you can purchase wine/spirits in many restaurants.

You may want to search in the main "Tennessee" forum as you will find a ton of info. about Cookeville.

Thanks for the help everyone it is still up in the air as to whether we'll be moved or not but figured it's good to plan for it. I don't want to for the sake of our daughter being in H.S. now but I've never minded moving and meeting new people. I will leave it up to the powers that be!
