Question Catholic in Nashville?

We have a job opportunity in Nashville but have been cautioned by some that Catholics are not necessarily welcomed with open arms. Someone who lived there a few years back said the first thing they were asked when meeting folks was "what church do you go to?" Not that anyone was not pleasant but they were definatively distant if you were Catholic. The quote was "Nashville is friendly if you're Protestant, even better if you Baptist."

I experienced this in other parts of the south personally. Is Nashville still this way? I have middle school and high school kids and would rather not expose them to this if it is.

I have lived in the Nashville area for 15 years (originally from New Jersey) and I have no idea who is putting those ideas into your head. There are Catholic churches in Nashville and you aren't looked down upon if you are Catholic. Whoever told you that is greatly misleading you. The Nashville area is so diverse. People from all over the country (and world) live in Nashville and the surrounding area, so some go to church, some don't and there are people of every type of religion here. The individual who painted this negative and untruthful picture of Nashville, obviously has some kind of ax to grind and figures this is the best way to do it.

There's a large contigent of Catholics (and Catholic churches, private schools, and a good sized nunnery) that live in Nashville. My wife was raised Catholic in Nashville and I can attest Catholics are well represented here. Now outside Davidson County it might be a different story (the further east from here you go in Tennessee the more overwhelmingly Protestant) but seriously doubt people would be unfriendly, cant attest to your friend's circle of aquaintances. This reminds me of a joke. (Catholic) "How do you get your Baptist friend from drinking all your beer when you go fishing? You invite another Baptist."

Catholics are well represented in the suburban counties too. Hendersonville is home to a large Catholic School system. It's viewed as one of the best in the area.

You were "cautioned by some"? I wouldn't listen to "some" anymore. Seriously, it's a non-issue. Your kids will do just fine.

I am Catholic. Not one single issue in 15 years living here.
