Post Downtown River Jam

Nashville, Tenn.--May 11, 2007-- The news came this week, from Mayor Bill Purcell, of plans for Downtown River Jam, two free music concerts at Nashville’s Riverfront Park, May 24 and May 31 as part of the ongoing Celebrate Nashville campaign. “We are Music City and I can’t imagine any better way to celebrate Nashville than to celebrate music, and there’s no better place to do it than on the riverfront,” said Purcell.

Downtown River Jam will feature a wide variety of local and national music artists, and will be produced by TomKats, Inc., the organizer and creator of Nashville’s former Dancin’ in the District summer concert series. “I look forward to bringing this free music event to Riverfront Park,” said Tom Morales, owner of TomKats. “This is an opportunity for Nashvillians to hear some great music, enjoy good food and have fun in our downtown.”

Performing on May 24 will be The Shoals, Minton Sparks, Jimmy Hall & Jack Pearson with special guest Barry Scott, Johnny Sketch & the Dirty Notes and J.D. Souther with Rod McGaha and Jeff Coffin. The concert line-up for May 31 will be Brother Trouble, Bonepony, Pam Rose & Friends, The Features, and Donna the Buffalo. The free events kick off at 5pm.

Downtown River Jam is sponsored by Celebrate Nashville partners: First Tennessee Bank, Purity Dairies, AT&T, HCA, Wal-Mart, Ingram Industries, WSMV Channel 4, Comcast, and The Tennessean. Producing sponsors include TomKats, Inc., Nashville Convention & Visitors Bureau, and Loveless Cafe.

Celebrate Nashville marks the city’s 200th anniversary with a nine-month celebration of the many things that make Nashville unique, including the city’s rich history and great music tradition. The program began on the date of Nashville’s incorporation as a city, October 1 and will end on the nation’s birthday, July 4.
