A lot can change in "a few years" as Murfreesboro is growing at a very fast rate. It would help if you were able to estimate your price range for purchase, square feet desired, and where you would be working ( if you intend to work and are not retired). If you are looking for a "builder's grade" new home, expect to pay in the 107-115$ per square foot range, currently. Willing to help you, just need more details. I love living in Murfreesboro, and I live on the north side by the VA hospital.

We are moving there at the end of January! What I found when house hunting is that anything under $200k sells like hotcakes there. Find a great Realtor that can keep you up to date daily on what is out there when you are ready to start looking. I would start interviewing for one now! One that specializes in relocation would be a great start. Mine was fantastic, if you want another recommendation.

I flew out a few weeks ago, and several on my list were already under contract by the time I got there. And generally, nothing looked like the pictures! But, by the end of day three (and nearly 30 houses) we found one! We settled on the west side, closer to the interstate and my husband's work. I think it is going to be perfect. I can't wait to get out there and get settled. We are a military (retiring) family and are ecstatic to hopefully have found our forever home!

From reviews that I've seen, schools on the west side of 24 seem better than closer to the heart of M'boro, with the exception of the Siegel schools. We almost bought there, but found one that was perfect and much closer to my husband's work on the south side of town.

People seem pretty friendly! Good luck on your hunt!

Yes, lots and lots og inventory under 200k in Rutherford County. Anything that is close to Williamson County (i.e Almaville) will have a higher pricetag. Best of luck in M'boro. Lots to do there.

We are trying to decide right now whether we want to move to Murfreesboro or Thompsons Station. Murfreesboro has an edge because of its cost of living.

wyldedixie: Those 2 cities are so "night and day difference". If you are talking distance/congestion going to and from Nashville, yes there is similarities.......but other than that...very different amenities. Have you visited both?

Yes. We live in Smyrna. We have both worked in Cool Springs. So we are familiar with both, but the deciding factor is probably going to be price and schools for our two small children. Williamson County's vibe is much more upscale and hipster than what I think we want. We really like the new Berkshire community in Murfreesboro. It's very similar to some of the new builds in Thompsons Station without the Thompsons Station price. But we are still going back and forth. The commute will be somewhat better from Thompsons Station to Cool Springs. We are in Nashville only once or twice a week now.
