haven't moved here yet but visited first time last year & I'm planning on going to college in the area. I'm from Connecticut and was expecting people to be a little rude towards me because of where I come from but it was the complete opposite! People in the city were nothing but nice to me and they seemed very welcoming to any newcomers. People seem to be generally a lot nicer here then it is where I live currently.

Thank you all for the information. I'll be visiting friends in Nolensville over New Years and will be able to get a "feel" of the area. I must say, that even if it's not for me, I do appreciate the enthusiasm and support that you all have for your home.

I am curious as to how accepting the locals are of outsiders. I'm a fairly respectful and easy going guy not out to ruffle any feathers, but will I gain acceptance?
Tennessee has three distinct areas, East, Middle, and West. The cultures vary in each one. Middle and West metro areas are less conservative, meaning religious. East TN, especially counties that are more isolated by Mountains/foothills (e.g., Oneida) will be suspicious of you--even if you're from the adjacent county. There are progressive pockets, from small to large, in every county. Are people friendly? Yes. Are they rude? Yes. Are they accepting? Sometimes if you share basic similarities, race, religion, financial status, etc. This is true everywhere.

I have to agree with hahaitsleeceuh since I moved here from CT (orginally from NY) and always felt welcomed to TN by everyone I met and still meet. I live in a town north of Nashville that only has 5,100 people in it and don't feel like an outsider at all. I'd say when you come to TN try to enjoy and experience all the new things it has to offer you that you didn't have back home.

Steve_TN, It`s true.... LOL, you doubt that I live in Tn. Lived there for 6 years. I guess people I know personaly that still live there, and aquaintances are all liars in your eyes. They really (and myself) didn`t experienced the "outsider" mentality there. Wow, glad you know us personaly to know weather this really happened to people.

Steve_Tn, by the way, I never said that Nashville was like this... You might want to reread my original post.

Whatever. The OP knows who is legit. That's what matters. Enough said. I have no plans on arguing about this.

Ok,Ok, OK, everyone sees things differently and there is nothing wrong with that. It is good for the OP or anyone reading to hear (read) all points of view. No arguing please.
