It's been a while since I checked out this thread so I thought I'd weigh in. My husband and I ended up moving to a very cool area of Inglewood (East of Gallatin and a few miles north of the Cleveland Park area.) In the end, we didn't see any houses in Cleveland Park that met our needs tho we thought the area was really intriguing. I would tell those exploring the areas on the east side of the Cumberland that there are some terrific neighborhoods and still lots of affordable homes in Inglewood, Cleveland Park, etc. (not so affordable in the blocks around Five Points, as far as I can tell.)
We are absolutely loving living here. We are at the very northern limits of Inglewood, quite close to Briley Parkway. Any further out and we'd be in Madison (which, despite many claims on this site, has some great areas). At first we thought we wouldn't want to be that far out, BUT the proximity to Briley solves many problems. We can't hear any highway noise, but we can get on Briley in about 2 minutes and from there go virtually anywhere in town very easily. Just something to think about. Feel free to pm me for info about this "undiscovered" neighborhood.

So I'm planning on moving to Cleveland Park.
We are about to make an offer on the home (a few issues to resolve in the contract).
Since this post was started in 2007 and it is now 2008, have those of you living in Cleveland Park seen an improvement in the area as far as crime?
I am okay with moving there because I grew up in the city, but my husband is very nervous. He grew up very isolated in the country and is really shocked at the amount of people who walk around at all hours of the day.
I tried to explain that is just part of city living (which is what he SAID he wanted ), but now he is a little edgy about the whole situation.
Men--Gotta love 'em....

I live in a comparable area in East Nashville, South Inglewood and since just two years ago it's cleaned up quite a bit. When I first moved in it was pretty common to see street level drug dealing almost daily. After numerous busts (cudos to the East Precinct) on Straightway and Chester I hardly ever see it anymore. Pretty good in just a two year span. It is a bit of a culture shock (former suburbanite and also lived in the country) at first but you get used to it and like being able to walk to a lot places myself (foobar, Rosepepper, Eastland Cafe, Family Wash, Veggie Cafe, Portland Brew). Just get to know your neighbors, get an alarm system and a dog or two always helps. Hold on to that property, East Nashville is a special place.

yank283,
Thanks! We have several friends living there and it is a perfect fit for us and our lifestyle.
We are currently renting in a VERY snobby community on the outskirts of Nashville (won't mention the name )
This question is for anyone currently living in Cleveland Park, near Lischey Avenue: Is anyone experiencing problems with your water? Do you notice a strange odor or taste or color?
This is the main issue holding up our purchase. I'm almost certain it is the water heater, but we have not heard back from the inspector yet.
I'm anxious and would like to know if anyone has had this problem, or currently has it?!?
Thanks!

I am in Eastwood Neighbors (just NE of Cle Park), and we had an issue with the water...well, THOUGHT we did. Turned out it was the drain that was the issue. It had some nastiness stuck inside it. Every time we turned the water on, it went in the drain and the smell would come out. Once that was cleared, the smell went away.
An easy way to check for this would be to clog up the drain and run the water to see if the smell is truly your water, or if it may be something in the drain.

No H2O concerns here
I live a block over from Lischey and we don't have any water problems.
In terms of improvements (your original question), the neighborhood has been steadily improving in terms of crime issues and in terms of housing stock (both rehabs and new construction).

All of these posts seem to be from 2007 so I'm wondering how things are now? I'm a single female and I've been looking at a house in the 1200 block of N 2nd and wasn't sure how safe of a place that was for me to be. Any thoughts?

N 2nd has traditionally had some real problems with crime in both McFerrin Park (500 to 800 blocks) and Cleveland Park (900 to 1200). The police focused VERY heavily on it about two years ago and you can definitely tell a significant difference.
The McFerrin Park blocks in particular have improved tremendously. Many of the homes in that part were vacant before, which left a handful of dedicated folks to deal with very entrenched drug dealing. Now, there are few, if any, vacant homes left. They have been renovated and lots of very friendly, active neighbors moved in.
Last I heard, the Cleveland Park blocks (where you are looking) have improved, but not as significantly. I think there may still be at least one problem house that hasn't been eradicated. I need to emphasize, though, that things have changed so rapidly here, that there may be improvements there that I haven't heard about. I'm going to nudge one of my acquaintances that owns property in the 1200 block who also posts on here very occasionally, and see if he can't give you the complete up to date skinny.
That was my long answer. My short answer would be, I think it is still somewhat transitional and you should visit several times to get a sense of whether it is a place where you would feel comfortable.
