Default Fairview

My husband and I are definitely moving Jan or Feb 2011. We visited in Oct 2009 and LOVED Nashville. He works for an IT company and we can move wherever since he'll be working from home. He might have to commute to Nashville occasionally. We are in our mid 20s and want to have kids in the next 2-3 years. I'll be a stay at home mom. We are conservative Christians and would be around like minded people. We live in LA now and dislike almost everything about it.

I was interested in learning more about Fairview. When we were in Nashville we never drove by this town. We originally thought we wanted to move to Hendersonville, but I'm trying to open my mind because my husband would love to have some land (an acre or so) and it doesn't seem like you can have much land in Hendersonville. Also, I noticed the prices are very reasonable in Fairview. Any info on this town would be appreciated. How far is the nearest mall or shopping center? Are there any restaurants close by? What about grocery stores? I saw that the 840 is being built to connect to Spring Hill. When will that be completed or is it already completed? Do tornadoes go through this area? Thanks so much!

If you still like Hendersonville, but want land, check out areas zoned for Beech High School or Station Camp High School. You can definitely get land in these areas...especially along the Long Hollow Pike Corridor. Some addresses could be Goodlettsville but as long as you are in Sumner County you'll still be zoned for Hendersonville schools.

Fairview is in the sticks. If you want that, that's fine. There's nothing much out that way as it relates to shopping, groceries, etc. 840 is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2012.

Tornadoes affect the entire region.

Fairview is not in the sticks (that is a stereotype). Fairview is 30 min. west of Nashville via Hwy 100 or I-40 off Hwy 96. We currently have Food Lion and HG Hills and Publix grocery store just broke ground next to city hall. Publix does their research and would not open a store in a city that had no projected growth. As a matter of fact, commercial growth is happening all along Hwy 100 and will explode with the completion of I-840. Malls are also close by... Cool Springs is about 40 min. Nashville West shopping center 25 min. and Green Hills Mall 30 min. There are several big chain stores in Dickson which is 20 min. via 840 to 40.
Williamson County schools are ranked the best in the state.
Fairview also has the largest city park in the state of TN. Bowie Park has 722 acres of hiking trails and lakes.
While the Bellevue YMCA is 15 min. down the road, Fairview has its own Rec center with gym, workout facility, pool and exercise classes.
As you mentioned, the best part about Fairview is the affordable housing on large lots. I live in a desirable neighborhood on a cul de sac and have over an acre of land. Most lots have at least half and acre.
I would love to answer any other questions you might have about Fairview. Be sure to come check it out the next time you are in town.

Fairview is a great little town. Its location is quite remote compared to other places in the county. When 840 opens in at least two years, things will change there, but right now there is no easy way to get to Fairview from the other parts of the county. Home prices are lower there for a reason - convenience. Highway 100 is a two-lane, windy road across a ridge. Beautiful but not always practical. For someone to decide if Fairview is for them, they would really need to see it and travel the roads during rush hour. If they don't need to go to Nashville or Cool Springs on a daily basis, it might work. But its location is still a major consideration.

If you can be anywhere, then it wont matter if you are in the stix. I agree it is not convenient if you are born and bred city folk. Proximity to Dickson isn't a selling point either IMO ... But if you like quiet and dont mind country folk, trucks and thick slow accents then its a nice little town. (yes I know I am stereotyping - flame away)

In your situation you might just want a chunk of land in somewhere like Lyles or Bon Aqua where you can have a mini farm with goats, chickens, etc.

I second the suggestion to look in the Beech/Station Camp areas of Hendersonville. You also may want to be in Mt. Juliet, as it's reminiscent of Hendersonville (in size and location) twenty years ago. Worth a look!

Where I come from driving 25 minutes to get to a store is the sticks.

Fairview is fine for those who don't want to go to Nashville or Cool Springs on a regular basis. I would just recommend that anybody thinking of moving there check out the area before deciding to buy a place out that way.

My wife and I relocated from suburban Chicago and also thought, "Hey, land, cheap homes, let's check it out." We couldn't get out of there fast enough as it just wasn't for us.
