Default Public Transportation in Nashville? Interning in Nashville

Hi Everybody,

I'm a student who will be interning in downtown Nashville at Andeson Thomas Design this summer for 4 weeks. Since I'm going to be staying in Franklin, is there any public transportation (i.e. a bus system) that could take me into work each day? I'm from Seattle, and I was planning on renting a car and driving to Nashville, so that I could fly back at the end of my trip.

I could drive my own car, but it would be nice not having to drive another 4-5days back at the end.

I think I remember reading about the state of public transportation not being that great throughout the area, but thought I would get some feedback and input on what I should do!

Thanks!

It would . . . depend. I'd suggest you check the Nashville MTA website to see what the schedule is like between where you'll be living and where you'll be working. You might just happen to find a good combination; but, in general, the public transportation system here isn't as encompassing as many other cities. It is a "drive your own" kind of place.

If I were you, with gas prices and car rentals being what they are nowadays, I'd think about justing flying to Nashville.

Definitely bring your car. The public transportation here is not good. And especially from Franklin to downtown. You will not be able to commute on a bus for that. (I lived in Seattle for 13 years, by the way...I miss the bus system there. I actually did not even own a car for 5 of those years!)

Yes bring your car. Mass transit here is awful. By the time Nashville has a light rail system from Franklin to Nashville, I will probably be retired by then (I'm 29 now).

I agree with you, and I think it's a crying shame. Nashville can easily afford better public transportation. The billions of dollars and years of headache spent widening highways could be better spent on providing alternatives to driving a car.

Yeah...Nashvillians love their cars. I guess out of neccessity. So no reliable public transportation. It is a shame Nasvhille is so slow about this. All they have to do is look at our neighbor Atlanta to see what we "don't" want to become. The ATL is just RIDICULOUS!
