Default If Antioch is bad...

I hear a lot of positive things about Williamson County Schools. I'm looking at a position with Gaylord Entertainment but am concerned about a long commute. If I go to Spring Hill I image I'll have an hour commute. Any suggestions on where to locate and stay within Williamson County?

Franklin and Brentwood would be the obvious choices. It will still be a bit of a long commute, although considerably less than from Spring Hill.

I don't know anything about them, but people on here seem to think the Sumner County schools are pretty good. You might consider that area as opposed to Williamson County. It would make your commute shorter.

Williamson County is "money" though. I think you need to be aware of that. It's not just another county (like Rutherford, Wilson, Sumner, etc.). That's where the "wealthy" of the area post up. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful area. But just so you know. People sometimes fail to mention that.

You mean the semi-wealthy . . . the truly wealthy are in Belle Meade.

Default Less taxes affords you a bigger payment

Your're hard pressed to find any home in the metro Detroit area taxed less than $2,500 per year. Suffice to say, the colonial my wife and I own is well beyond that. From my research, I can see Tennessee is much less. So, what I'm not putting into taxes I can put towards the mortgage. I appreciate the input from everyone because I have no clue as to what the housing market is like in Tennessee.

Where I live in Nashville (the general services district) it's easy to figure your tax if you know the value of the house. Because the assessed value is 25% and the tax rate is around $4.00 . . . you just have to move the decimal place over.

For a $200,000 home, the property tax is around $2000.
For a $350,000 home, the property tax is around $3500.

Other areas will have different tax rates of course, but they are comparable from county to county.

Ok, take it from someone who has lived here for 7 years.
Antioch is decent. Its not Beverly Hills and its far from being Compton.
There are two sides to it:
the NEW side
and
the OLD side

In the old side, you'll find bad people.
Why? Because the homes are older and cheaper.

In the new developing side, you'll find middle class working families.
Keep in mind that Antioch very diverse.

The public schools, I have to admit, aren't that lovely; but there are private alternatives.
And stay away from Hickory Hollow Mall on weekends, afternoons.

Otherwise, It would not harm you to move here. You can easily find yourself a nice new spacious home here for under 250k in a decent neighborhood and still be close to shopping, work.

I would LOVE to find a nieghborhood such as the one we live in now. We have about 18 homes on our street. In the Spring and Fall we have block party's. Every 2nd Saturday we have a golf outing for the guys. We average 10-12 each time. We have ice cream social time every Friday night. Even during the winter. I'm hoping that we can find something similar in Tenn. But to asnswer your qustion Yes We are members of a Non Denom church with 25.000 weekly attenders. Is there a mega church in Nashville.
Nashville has a bad transit system. It covers a small area. And sidewalks aren't consistent around here. Basically the only way to get around is to drive. Very rarely you will find people who walk to work.

Don't do it, bro. That $250K home in Antioch might be worth less than that in a year. Antioch is one of the few places in Middle Tennessee where home prices are going down rather than up.

The bottom line is, there's just no reason for you to move to Antioch, and there are many reasons not to. If your price ceiling was $90K, things would be different. But you've said you can afford up to $275K, which can be found in countless nicer areas. I would strongly recommend checking some of them out before you succumb to Hispantioch.
