Asian grocery stores in/around Nashville?
We're moving from LA to Nashville in a couple of months. Most likely we'll be living in Williamson County. Can anyone tell me if there are asian grocery stores in or around Nashville? And do the regular grocery stores have a good selection of ethnic foods? I'm used to being able to go to grocery stores of all different cultures - particularly Korean, Thai, Japanese, Chinese and even Middle Eastern. I'd like to know now so I know whether I should stock up on certain key supplies to bring with me. TIA!

This is a great question. I currently live in Brooklyn and work in Manhattan so needless to say, I have a world of cool cuisine at my disposal. I'm moving to Nashville at the end of the summer and I'm worried about keeping up my healthy, ecclectic food habits. I'm into all different foods and there are some snacks and treats I've grown accustomed to living in the city like the ones I find in all the great little Asian markets. People keep teasing me that I'll be forced to eat BBQ and fried foods all the time. I love that stuff too but not 24/7!

There are a number of "ethnic foods" markets in Nashville. Of course, nothing like you'd find in NYC or LA or some other cities. Still, you should be able to find what you need with a little effort. Even the Farmer's Market here used to have several ethnic food shops; however, they're redoing that now and I'm not sure what the end results will be.

I've now been living in Brentwood 5 months now. I've been to K&S, the international grocer on Nolensville Pike near Harding Place. It probably stocks 90% of my needs. It has 1 to 2 aisles of different ethnicities - hispanic, korean, chinese, japanese, etc. It's not that big but it does suffice. I'm not crazy about the cleanliness of the place though. I heard there's a bigger one in Nashville. There's also a small Japanese grocery store on Old Hickory and Nolensville. I've been meaning to check it out but have not gotten around to it yet. On Nolensville Rd, I've also seen persian grocery stores too. I've also driven past a tiny korean grocery store in downtown Nashville. So they're definitely out there but you might have to drive a bit to get to them.

Imogene-
I go to the little Japanese market on Nolensville/Old Hickory. Pretty good selection. More importantly, it doesn't have the "old fish" smell of K&S! Every time we go there, the kids and I race past the butcher's section. If they didn't have so many of the foods we like, we'd never go there.
Did anyone mention the market near Belmont?

akm4 - When I was referring to the cleanliness of K&S, I was thinking of their butcher/seafood section and I agree with you about the smell.

There's two Asian markets in Murfreesboro that I know of. One on Church street and one near MTSU.

I know there are many in Murfreesboro and Smyrna. There's one on Highway 96 near the St. Andrews shopping center, one on Rutherford Blvd across form Black Fox elementary, one on Church Street across from KFC, one on south Church Street in the Barfield area, one on Bradyville Pike and Minerva Drive intersection, one in Smyrna off Almaville Road near the Sonic. One off South Lowry near downtown, and one on Sam Ridley near Home Depot. Don't really know about the Franklin area, though.
