Cool Sales Tax

I understand that sales tax is apprx. 9%. Is that across the board, for everything? Groceries, cars, etc.?
One more thing, utilites: gas/electric expense during hottest months of summer, 1500-1900 sq ft. home??
What about avg. water bill, say you have 1/2 acre, 2/3 people living in home
I would appreciate anyones input.
Thanks.

They've just lowered the state portion of the sales tax on food by 0.5%. Sales tax varies because part of it is set by the state, and part by the counties (up to 2.75%); and it is different on food than other items. You're close enough just saying 9% on everything.

With a well insulated house, an efficient heat pump . . . I'd say your electric would run anywhere from $85 to $135 (keeping it around 72 all the time). Assume about $.06 to $.07 per square foot during the worst part of summer. More if you do a lot of laundry or cooking.

Water in the Nashville area would depend on whether you're on Metro Water, or another utility. Metro is very high (for several reasons). I pay $12 for water and sewer being on Harpeth Valley Utility. I don't have a family, so I don't usually use over the monthly allowance. You could double or triple that for Metro.

Of course, all of these are just rough estimates. Individual usage can make a big difference.
