Hello Everyone,

My husband and I are relocating to Nashville for his work and looking for 3BR apt or condo to rent. He will be working near the Nashville Airport and I was wondering commute-wise what is the best area to live in? How is the downtown area to rent? We are in our 30s and hoping to start a family soon so we would like to rent first for atleast a year and then possibly buy once we know the area more. I've read some through several other posts that recommend Brentwood and Franklin as good areas for families. We are looking for a decent are with shopping, restraunts close by. Any advice will be appreciated, thanks in advance.

If you're working near the airport I would recommend Mt. Juliet or Hendersonville. Mt. Juliet would probably have a shorter commute but Hendersonville offers a bit more shopping/restaurants. These are both very good areas for young families!

We live in Brentwood and my husband works near the airport. He likes this area because he has multiple commute options. If there is a wreck one way, he just goes a different way. I would look around Nipper's Corner. Close to Brentwood without being as expensive. And easy commute to work with several route options. There are several gated complexes in that area with nice pools and amenties. Just don't go east of Edmondson Pike.

My wife and I both work near the airport and are relocating to Mt Juliet from Spring Hill for this very reason - convenience and close to work. From our work exit to Mt Juliet is less than 10 minutes since it's only 10 miles. Depending on where you live from there you'd just add commute time but there are a few good options right off the interstate in the providence area. Brentwood to near the airport will be about 15-20 minutes with everyday traffic. I know that very well since I go through that area every day on the way to Spring Hill. Both Mt Juliet and Brentwood/Franklin are excellent for families with plenty of shopping and great schools. However, having lived in Franklin and being very familiar with the south and east area of Nashville for almost 10 years, I'd pick Mt Juliet over Brentwood/Franklin. Everyone will have their opinions but that's just what I'd choose based on most of the shopping/food being more contained in one general area. In Cool Springs you could go to the mall for a thing or two and have to get in your car and sit through multiple red lights/traffic just to make another stop of something else you need. Literally half of the shopping/eating areas are within walking distance in the Mt Juliet Providence area.

As far as using multiple routes, I've found that everyone gets the same 'crash memo'. Meaning that the secondary roads fill up very quickly when word of an accident gets out.

As far as downtown Nashville, I really know nothing about.
