Peterson Transport, I believe, is the name from the show. They stop along the way to pick up and drop off and are reasonably priced, compared to lots of transports!
Love shows like that, actually any shows that have anything to do with animal rescue, being a animal lover that we are. I rather spent my time watching animal rescue shows than a lot of the crap that is on tv anyways.
guess what ? we do transport for a shelter too and we dont get paid a dime !! we do this out of our pocket and we want to see the animals get to where they need to go safely. I would not feel right handing them off to someone I have only spoken to a few times . Luckily my husband and I both get to talk to the people at least twenty times that we are meeting at some point on the route way before the transport happens . I wish we could get paid it sure would help but I dont care because we always get blessed by it double . I like the fact that I can take my dogs along and my bird too . I try not to take my dogs and my bird along too often in the winter because of the cold / heat factor . You always have a tendancy to wonder if they are going to truly good homes and if that will be their forever home . yes I get weepy when I hand them off it is only natural .
I saw the show and remember a sad episode where a rural feral dog was captured, vetted and then rehomed to a young woman in NYC on the basis of a telephone interview. Hope, the dog, apparently panicked and escaped from her collar (was told to keep her on a harness) as she was very skittish and the owner would have better control w/ a harness. She was eventually re-captured in NYC but apparently had no microchip and was sent upstate NY where she was adopted, renamed Melissa and escaped after a very short time and hasnt been seen since (the rescue group that rehomed her from NYC wasn't aware til later who she was and that she had been missing from a home in NYC). I hate to be a naysayer but I'm sure she's long gone as she was older and had been spayed and had a dental where many teeth were removed while still in the original rescue group before being rehomed to NYC so there's no way she could fend for herself in the wild and in the cold snowy winter (this was about 2 years ago). IMO, rehoming an older insecure feral dog who was never in an urban situation was a bad idea at best and it's always best if an actual home visit is done.
