I've been on that tower before. I had no idea it was from the 68 World's Fair. You learn something every day.

We had our first snow, about 2 inches, on Saturday.

Due to the many leaves remaining on tree branches, early snows are quite damaging.

It was fairly uneventful here and I only saw one damaged tree.

I agree - the picture of the hawk was beautiful.

Rain...... at least we don't have to shovel it.

Glad to hear not much damage!

With the change of seasons it'll be fun to share all the new sights. Looking forward to it! I'm with taigagirl - love this thread!

We had the most glorious sunrise this morning! I had to be extra careful while driving to work because its beauty was such a distraction. Others were talking about it when I arrived at the office; even a couple of the guys, who usually don't seem to notice such things. The sky was brilliant pinkish-orange just before the sun peeked over the horizon, and the clouds were illuminated from underneath and behind. It was breathtaking!

Here's a picture of nuts on one of my trees this year.
black walnuts are indeed a lot of effort to deal with, more than most people are willing to put forth - usually including myself.

when i lived in indiana and was lucky enough to have some black walnut trees, i was really looking forward to the nuts. but when it became clear what a chore it was to deal with them, i usually ended up selling most of them unhusked to an amish guy, but always kept a grocery sackful to open using a shop vise.

Great story, ugga. Nothing like that around these parts, so it made for very interesting reading.
