The surprise is that I'm now getting bluebirds who like to sit on top of the log and eat this mix as well. Chickadees and nuthatch and titmouse are pecking too.
Today, I got a rare starling. I used to get bombed with them in NJ but here in Tn., I haven't seen them at my feeders. So today my backyard list has increased.
Good going.

Enjoyed the other posts, too.

I saw six beautiful deer out eating in a field this morning. They were quite far from the road so I just sat and enjoyed them for a few minutes. Very peaceful and beautiful.

It's always nice to watch them without hearing gun shots.

Agree!! I love them. My Dad stopped hunting many years ago, and I was so happy. As kids we constantly complained about eating "Bambi". I guess it eventually got to him.

Hmmm...I think bjh just mooned us! Sorry...couldn't resist.

Walking the other morning, I scared at least one, maybe both of my gator guys. I saw one jump into the water just before I got to his sunning spot; the other may have been something else, but something pretty big got spooked when I started walking on the wooden bridge across a lake and jumped into the water, making a really big splash, so I'm figuring gator.

Have a great day, all, and here's to a new year of more of Mother Nature's beauty.

From my kitchen window this afternoon I a most amusing sight involving nature:
Picture this, if you will:

two squirrels, one male the other female paused at the edge of the garage roof...male was feeling very amorous...makes his first move, female quickly escapes, runs up to the garage peak and jumps up onto tree branch, turns around and sits there chattering for the male.

He realizes he's in the wrong place, turns, runs up to the roof peak,
leaps into the air and totally misses the low hanging branch falling to the roof top on the other side of the garage...I lost sight of him for a minute cause I was laughing so hard...

A few seconds later the female jumps from the tree to the roof and
starts chasing the male around the roof, then jumped back to the tree branch, sitting, waiting...

the male was very hesitant to make another attempt for the tree branch,
he would go to the peak and stand on his hind legs looking at the female and the branch...I'll bet he was trying to decide if she was worth the trouble...and the pain

Sooo funny,I've never seen a squirrel leap and miss like he did...poor
thing...
