This afternoon I discovered why sometimes the peanuts in my peanut feeder are just empty shells. This little Downy Woodpecker is to blame! I heard a tap-tap-tapping in my backyard and caught him red-handed. .
Or is that red-winged.

I can just see that rodent making away with a juicy tomato.

Here on the Cumberland Plateau TN it's been in the 60's at night mid / high 70's...
Sounds as though your weather is similar to ours, though our lows are in the mid-50s. The Seattle Times reported that we would start to see dropping highs and lows, as of this week -- thank GOD, I might add (though of course I do know that God doesn't have anything to do with our physical world).
The only nature I've seen today was the human and canine variety -- and the butterflies that frequent my yard. Too hot for even the birds and squirrels -- all under cover, I guess. Probably panting.
