I recently found an old photo that my mom took of my Dad and me standing next to our 1936 Ford and a Sign on a pole that read: "Cumberland Gap >". Picture was dated: August 1937......I was 5 yrs old.
Would that be near your area of "Cumberland Plateau"?.........and what would be the approx elevation? Thanks
Cumberland Gap is East of I-75 on the map.. a ?? 5-7 mile tunnels connects Tennessee ~ Kentucky at the border..
Cumberland Plateau is West of I-75
Elevation up too 2500 feet. Great Smokey Mountains 6700 feet in elevation then heading west the Tennessee Valley.. then you climb the escarpment 1200-1700 feet onto the Cumberland Pleatue west of Knoxville. We have hills ~ large hills ~ knobs and very large knobs and mountains.
Knob is bigger than a hill..... smaller than a mountain.
About 170-180 miles East of my location is the Cumberland Gap...

The clever vine that started to tangle and choke another plant in my garden...I undid the vine and drooped it down to dangle and wait for the seasons end...The vine was clever...it really had nothing to grow on to get back UP to where it wanted to be...so the thing curled back on itself and used it self to climb back up...very smart plant.

This link is 1 of many State Parks here on the Cumberland Plateau TN. Once open look for the water falls photo right of center. Below the photo is a dark grey area.. 360 degree views. Open and too stop the rotation click on photo.. it takes some practice you can go left -right -up - down but it's twitchy. The tallest water falls east of the Rocky Mountains.
20,000 acres of mother nature's beauty. Camping ~ Hiking ~ Canoeing~RV Camping. Great food at the parks restaurant.
All year long they have some special event going on check the link for event calendar. This year Tennessee State Parks are celebrating 75 years.
Check out the menu at the restaurant daily & week end specials. It's excellent !! Seniors 10% discount.

DH and I zigzagged through that region (Oct-Nov '09) and loved it, but I don't believe we visited that park. That's the problem with traveling such a great distance; it's so hard to pick and choose -- especially when you haven't been there before!

I agree with LFM. That is poetic.

I didn't know that and have been playing with it already. Thanks TN Tin Man!
After 37 years in Florida and moved this year in April too the Cumberland Plateau Tennessee I have more choices of everything. Tennessee has 3 primary fly ways for bird migration. And a large animal population and on my too do list salamanders in the Great Smokey Mountains. More species of Salamander any were in the lower 48.
I will do anything Nature ~ Birds ~ Animals ~ Spiders~ Mushrooms ~ Landscapes ~ Water Falls and Rivers
And maybe a snake..
For my birds... I have a Bird Cam 8mp... set up and walk away.. any movement takes a photo.
For other birds.. going into the habitat and just being there... Out of 100 shots I have maybe 8 keepers.
I have a digitial Canon Rebel that takes great pictures. What type of camera do you use the most? Do you use the auto features or adjust focus, etc. yourself?
