Saw the first red/orange leaf on one of my bushes a couple of days ago. I think the poor thing is confused. We had 70s and 80s for a few days and then we jumped back up to 99. Sigh.

You think yours are confused.... I've got two spring blooming shrubs that are sending out blossoms. DH reported seeing baby deer cavorting at the campground.
A red fox was trotting around in the yard - it blended in perfectly with the autumn colors. It was the movement that caught my eye in the backdrop of brown and orange foliage.
We've had a fox in our backyard. Not sure if red or grey. Anyway it's welcome, since we don't keep chickens.
i was driving on the interstate with cruise control set at around 75 mph and just at the edge of normal viewing to the left, not even in peripheral vision yet, i spotted a dragonfly. for that instant, it seemed to be suspended in time. the only thing i can think of is it was hovering in place for that milisecond, while maintaining a forward motion at or near 75 mph! i'd like to eventually see the slow motion video of how that was achieved.
Little Ruby Throat Humming Bird came into the garage looking for food...... spotted the "RED" Handle on the emergency release lever for the automatic garage door opener... flew over and stuck his little bill into the end of the handle several times.. hovered and looked at me... and flew off..... must have been a Humming Bird Senior Moment.
A sad one. Found one of my hummingbirds dead on the front walk right under my kitchen window yesterday as I came home from work.
He must have smashed into the window.

They are the most amazing of the insect kingdom, IMO. I just love them. We have one visit here from time to time and he gives the yard a vigorous going over, zooming level with our second floor sunroom where I spend most of my relaxing times. I cannot imagine what he's picking up at that level. It must be good though because he comes back from time to time.
Today while sitting here knitting I heard the chickadee's song and looked up to see one sitting in the bough of the neighbor's blue spruce, just sitting there looking right at me. I wonder if he's gone home to tell his friends about the person he saw sitting and knitting.

Or maybe he had an illness or just had reached the end of his life span.

I refer to them in my mind as the "elder brothers" since they have been on earth a long time.
