I got to see some chipmunks when I was up north. Miss those little clowns.

Today's nature walk featured a big ol' alligator staring down a beautiful, big duck. I was on a bridge, gator was in the water, duck was on the shore. We stood looking at each other for a few seconds. I'm not sure if the duck was trying to protect a nest or what was going on there. I got a few feet away and tried to clap really loudly, hoping the duck would go away, but he didn't. Not sure who won that stare down contest. I hope it was the duck.

Chipmunks are so fun to watch....we used to feed the black oil sunflower seed to birds and the chippies would always get way more than we meant them to....finally we decided they must have had about 50 lbs of seed tucked away in their underground tunnels!

I saw a cicada today, one of the every-17-yrs kind. The darn thing was huge.... had red eyes too. Weird.

those are neat. it's cool to think that he was around clear back in 1994, sucking on tree roots.

in my neck of the woods the katydids are out all night, loud enough to nearly drown out the crickets.

I remember seeing chipmunks when I lived in NY. Don't think I've seen one in the south.

Great posts, thanks.

Another white ibis flew overhead today-pretty. And the squirrel ate the chopped nectarine put out for him....every bit of it too. Well, not the pit.

Driving around the US a lot of the wildlife you see is birds: turkeys, Canada geese, ducks, egrets, pelicans, vultures, hawks.

Good morning, all.

LOL...I forgot to tell you all yesterday about my nature walk. I was walking my most frequent walking path and I noticed a lot of activity going on in the water just before me and it looked like some little creatures (maybe turtles, fish, who knows) were trying to out run me. I was very focused on all this activity so I could tell y'all about it when I walked right into the path of a sprinkler! That was the activity - the water hitting the lake! At least it felt good!

Today, I got sidelined by a big ol' gator, just offshore.
