This morning when I got up a female and two male purple finches were discussing my hanging flower basket on the front porch. Fingers crossed.

A large, ornamental goldfish swimming in a recently flooded small tributary of a largish river near my home was a big surprise yesterday. He probably floated/swam out of some upstream resident's ornamental fish pond when we got six inches of rain about ten days ago, followed by two more last Friday. The tributary is running clear but high and swift still at present.

The goldfish was far downstream before I could even think about netting him, putting him in a bucket, and taking him to a more suitable environment. He is probably all the way to the river by now, if a raccoon hasn't caught him, poor thing (but a happy surprise for the raccoon).

DNR EagleCam

I am surprised at how much the eaglets have matured in the last couple of weeks. It will soon be time to watch them practice lifting up on the air with their wings.

Doggone towhees are freaking out on our vehicle mirrors. They'll stand on top of the mirror, then jump off and flit into it, then go back to standing on it... over, and over, and over, and over...

Both our truck and car end up with bird poop all over the side and the mirror.

But our morning doves and bluejays are back!

Well my goodness - thanks for the great and simple idea PAhippo! I feel somewhat foolish...

Default Hawk..........

Yesterday while doing the dishes at the kitchen sink (have a large window there looking out over my deck)..........I saw a large "bird" come swooping down out of the trees and "nail" a Chipmunk not 10 feet from the house wall. He then jumped up to the arm rest part of one of the chairs on the deck and just sat perched there. I grabbed my phone and got a couple of pictures........then got my bird book out of the book-case and looked him up:.............Northern Harrier Hawk!!
