I have a red cardinal who comes back every year and sits on my bathroom window sill.
The funniest animal/nature story was about a mallard duck. They like to mate in my front yard. When I first bought this house I didn't have a lawn mower yet and the grass in front was getting a little high. I pulled into the driveway and saw this duck decoy (or so I thought) sitting there under the tree. I thought my brother did it as we are constantly pulling pranks on each other and this was his way of telling me I needed to mow my lawn. So, I got out of the car and went to go get it and it got up and charged me scaring me to death.
Cool thread, gbh! It just so happens that my nature sighting today was a great blue heron! I often see herons during my morning commute to work, which runs through the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore (along the southern shore of Lake Michigan).
This evening in my yard I saw my usual feathered friends, including mouring doves, a pair of cardinals, a nuthatch, goldfinches and chickadees. Female goldfinch.
I didn't see my resident bunny rabbit today, but I'm sure he's been around. I always have lots of squirrels in my yard. My front yard sports one of the largest black walnut trees in the area and I've got another walnut in the backyard. Squirrels love this place! Here's one of my buddies who got caught in the rain a couple weeks ago.
We're fortunate enough to live on 250 wildlife packed acres. Deer will come to within a few feet of the house, about 40 elk wander the woods behind our house, porcupine on occasion and there is also a falcon that plays tag with one of our dogs, only one. We also have a family of owls, and a flock of wild turkeys.
As usual, there is a downside. Rattlesnakes! Before you even ask, yes, I will kill them if needed and for that I don't apologize. When they get into the house or threaten my family, they're compost. On the other hand, we go out of our way to avoid hurting any other snakes that live here.
We also have a small stand of Russian Olive trees that are in bloom right now. The scent is AMAZING! Almost like night blooming Jasmine. I love those trees!
Many years ago when my brother was small he got too close to a goose nesting area......one of them chased him all over, scared him to death, eventually caught up with him, and with the bill, pulled the back of his little pants down. (no bites to person )......
OMG so funny. Well, it is after midnight here and a raccoon is on the deck looking for leftover sunflower seeds....he just knocked something over, a big clang......no sleep for me.

Good photos.....lots of us enjoy feeding birds and checking out all the antics of squirrels etc. Sounds like you have a very pleasant drive in to work!! And a perfect yard/area to watch all our little friends, lucky you.
Little chickadees are so sweet, at the feeder they just take one little seed and then off they go..........and nuthatches too, and titmice, and well, more later!!

A skunk passed through last night. Didn't see him, but could sure smell him since our bedroom windows were wide open! Phew...
This morning at the feeders we've had blue birds, a male oreole, robins, swallows, finches, sparrows, chickadees, and a nuthatch. Yesterday I saw a ruby throated hummingbird zooming around. I'm slowly coaxing them closer to the deck...
Great time for this thread. Saturday around 9 AM I had a fox laying in my bird bath and last night we had a momma owl and her baby in the back yard. Went to let the dogs out and they went crazy. You could hear the baby screeching for momma and actually saw her swoop in and feed the little guy. Will have to be super careful with my 5 lb dogs for awhile.
We use to see this stuff all the now but not so mcuh these days because of all the construction over the last few years.
