one of my faves:
Rats & Mice = mischeif

cats = clowder
goats = herd (commonly) but also a tribe or trip (i find the latter one funny lol)
Peafowl = muster, ostentation, pride
geese = also known as a gaggle (or when in flight a skein) *
ducks = paddle, team, float, badelynge, bunch, and brace *
* most scientists group ALL groups of birds as a "flock" however this term isnt species specific
Owls = parliment (no...realy!)
apes = shrewdness
baboons = troop
badgers = cete
bears = sloth or sleuth
cobras = quiver
girraffe = tower
hawks = cast or kettle
otters = romp
rattlesnakes = rhumba

theres so many more but the funny ones tend to stick in my head lol

Just curious, anyone knows why / how did English end up with such a colorful pallete of describing...various animals in plural forms?

My grandfather, and consequently I as well, always referred to teal as a brace and big ducks as a bunch

Jeez, Louise, y'all need to learn how to spell. "Mischeif?" Remember the rule "i" before "e" except after "c?"
