The team searched more than 11,000 genes in human, chimpanzee and gorilla for genetic changes important in evolution. Humans and chimpanzees are genetically closest to each other over most of the genome, but the team found many places where this is not the case. 15% of the human genome is closer to the gorilla genome than it is to chimpanzee, and 15% of the chimpanzee genome is closer to the gorilla than human.

In all three species, genes relating to sensory perception, hearing and brain development showed accelerated evolution – and particularly so in humans and gorillas.

Even without me being a nerd, I think there might be some truth to this since many humanoids look like Apes in general ...

I had thought that chimps were more likely to be closer to humans, but that wasn't the case. I thought the hold thing was settled.

OK ...
Little humanoids look like chimps, big humanoids look like gorillas ...

You have to take my comments with a large bag of salt !

mind of a 6 year old. temper of a bipolar in manic with no meds.
the rage is uncontrollable and has no limits and easily touched off. strongest animal on earth. that is why they use chimps and not gorillas.
here is where the great similarity comes in, they are not prone to participating in learning experiments. that is why the use chimps.

I once was listening to a talk show guy on the radio about people who had wild animals. One of them was a chimp that pulled a lady's arm off. Other people had other wild animals and were probably lucky. Would I keep an anaconda as a pet? Heck no.

Humans and chimps are more closely related to one another than humans and gorillas are.

The most recent common ancestor of humans and chimps lived around 5 to 7 million years ago. Whereas the common ancestor of humans and gorillas goes back farther than that. Human DNA is also more similar to chimp DNA than it is to gorilla DNA.

The according to the article, gorillas are more similar to humans. But who knows, maybe chimps are smarter.

What this shows is that the gorilla is likely closer genetically to the ancesters of all three species since 15% of its genome is more similar to chimps than to humans while another 15% is more similar to humans than to chimps. Their genome also shows apparent parallel evolution with the other two in places on its genome.

Sounds like you are right. I'll have to re-read it again so I'll have gotten a better read...
