You're kidding. They doubt the dating techniques? That's hilarious. It's like, a science buffet. Eat the science you like, skip the science you don't like. Like when they thought the world was flat.

Pretty much what everyone does. When I was a kid I was taught life begins with conception, now I see pro-choicers arguing otherwise.

That was worth the read..clever and funny...I was just wondering if we could do a little genetic splicing and create a big hairy elephant ? That would be interesting...The writer that said his preacher said that ancient fossils were the devils work...to fool mankind into believing that the world was more than 6000 years old...well I don't see how that premise would serve the devil?
ALSO...Were did these bible literalists come up with the 6000 year number? The length of time is of little consequence...We can mark the 2000 year mark...pretty accurately from the birth of CHRIST...The bench mark for time is not clear in the O.T. - 6000 thousand years could have been 6 million years since Adam and EVE. It makes no sense that some fundie preacher would say that a rock is six thousand years old max!.....I've got socks older than that.

He creates and he can be the destroyer too. God is omniscient, which means he knows all.. even the number of hairs on your head.
The earth is old. God can create when he wants to create and when he wants to destroy. There have probably been many living creatures on this earth. It is clear. God tells us of the giants, that a man was a tall as a cedar tree.

So, now you're faced with the idea that the person who is running your government is delusional. Seriously. You can show them the mammoth and they would find some way to explain it away or try and make you believe it's less than 6000 years old. Which is ridiculous.
You get crap like this :

oh, i see now.
you really aren't much interested in this at all, except the extent to which you can use it to bludgeon your political opponents.
gotcha.

I do not recall the name, but it was a Bishop who came up with the 6,000 year figure since Creation.
Essentially, he created a 'time line' from the Old Testament, using the age at death given therein from Adam up to, well, somebody. It is surprising how long the old folks lived: I believe Adam lived to 900 years or so, as did Noah, but then it was downhill from there; I believe one of Noah's grandsons died in his infancy, age 230 years.

The Bible tells us that a thousand years is as a day to God. It makes it clear in several places that the man made definition of time is not the same as God's. So I have never understood why some folks find it necessary to define the "time" since creation as 6000 years.....or 6 million years....or any specific time. I do wish people would quit trying put God in a box of their own making. He is bigger than that.

The bible is very clear about the future of the earth.. there shall be war , many will die, only a few will survive.. then there will be a new heaven and new earth .
We have nuclear weapons and eventually they will be used to destroy mankind. This does not mean that God is not in control.. he will see man becoming more evil and God will allow them to destroy themselves because of it.
So in many ,many years to come, it is not unthinkable that there will be those who unearth the remains of those of today to find their bones and wonder what kind of civilization walked the earth and how they destroyed themselves.

I could care less about the religion but cloning hairy elephants iis interesting. That would be a way of exploiting the sub arctic taiga. Ever wonder how many mammoth burgers you could make out of real fresh mammoth? While they are at it how about cloning some Utah Raptors to take care of the wild pig infestation.
