About a week ago, I watched a show on PBS, 'Nature', I think. I was amazed at how smart elephants are! In one experiment, scientists played a recording near a group of elephants of people talking who belong to a tribe that does not hunt elephants. The elephants did not respond at all. Then they played a recording of people talking who belong to a tribe who DO hunt elephants.
The herd immediately went into defensive postures, spreading their ears, grouping together, and facing the threat.
That elephants can differentiate between human languages is truly amazing! (they sounded the same to me! )
