It was like a horrific scene from planet of the apes or something. Poor thing must have been terrified. Sad I saw it, sadder it happened.

I did something similar when I was a kid, maybe 6 or 7. I found a baby bird in the grass about a quarter mile from our house. I was super excited and carried it home, but it died before I got there. I don't know if it was already about to die, or I scared it to death, or I held it too tightly and it couldn't breathe. But I sure felt awful about it.
