And for years, I have watched these aggressive birds around Raleigh, NC go crazy on dogs, cats and other birds, but have never had one pay any attention to me. That changed this morning. I was standing outside talking on my phone when this bird - probably a mockingbird, started to dive bomb me. I wasn't really paying any attention to it, but then it flew by within about a inch of my ear - and on the next pass - it hit the back of my head. It didn't hurt but, wow I guess I must have unknowingly been standing very close to the nest. I was surrounded by hedges and trees so it could have been anywhere.
Couldn't count how many times. Used to check nests of many different species for eggs and nestlings as part of my job. The worst was a peregrine falcon known locally by those of us in the profession as "The B*&$#". She not only hit you and left you bleeding, but tried to knock you off her 2-story tall nest platform. I've also been vomited and pooped on. By fish eaters like herons and cormorants. Take a wild guess which is preferable.

Yes, in Japan. I was walking home under some fir trees when I heard a noise and looked up. I saw some big black ravens in a nest and made eye contact. They dive bombed me and actually touched my head, but there was no injury. I was carrying an umbrella and opened it up, so they stopped. I learned not to look at their nest again.
Several times, by mockingbirds. When we lived in Florida, the trees lining our street all seemed to contain mockingbird nests during the egg-laying season. Those birds were mean! Our dog would freak out and refuse to stay on the sidewalk, so we walked in the street.

I guess they can be pretty feisty? They're adorable though.
