I'm no expert on snakes---but here's a little ditty that could help classify---




Red on Black, you're ok, Jack!


Red on yellow, you're a dead fellow!




of course, I wouldn't suggest standing around trying to remember the jingle, just GTH out of there

That only works if you're trying to distinguish a North American species of coral snake from a scarlet king snake.

I echo what Dirt Grinder said, with emphasis on the part that says North American. Once you go outside of N. America, a coral snake's bands won't necessarily follow this pattern.
