Take the Blob fish, or the Angler fish, for example, really ugly. When it comes to the angler fish, I was actually surprised to learn the horrendous monstrosities you see are actually female, and the males are just tiny things lol; not pretty for sure!

I was actually unaware of the sexual dimorphism that angler fish exhibit. Reminds me a lot of the black widow spider.

I guess females are more terrifying in general.

It's very dark way down deep in the ocean with no light. They don't have to be pretty because no one is suppose to see them. Just kidding...

The male angler fish is a tiny, tiny little creature. For a long time, scientists couldn't figure out why all the angler fish were female. Then one day it was discovered that the male actually fuses with the female for life and becomes nothing more than a small permanent bump on the female's body.

I caught a Sea Robin once, which have legs to crawl on the bottom at times. It was so ugly, I thought I was in an episode of "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea".

Nothing is ugly and nothing is beautiful other than what humans have incrementally ascribed to them. The animals you are noticing are currently successful. They live they reproduce and they die. And they will eventually evolve or disappear. To many that is fascinating

The mental image behind that is very disturbing, to me at least.

Agreed. I think the angler fish looks awesome, though I wouldn't want to be a male.

If we humans had as much pressure per square inch pushing against our bodies all the time like those deep sea critters do, then nary one of us would be pretty either.
