From land animal perspective, it seems so much earth surface is wasted... How would a 50% land and 50% ocean arrangement change the earth? (besides having more land to walk on)

So where do you plan to get your next drink?

How much of the human body is made up of water content?

Originally Answered: We all know that the human body is made up of 70% of water. The human body contains 70% of water. It is a quantitative measure. Its like saying a water bottle has x% of water, then why isn't it in form of water.

Want to try Even that up?

It would change everything; our weather is based on large bodies of water & 'water animals' are just as important as land animals.

Besides, I'm not sure that I'd want an asteroid having a 50/50 chance of hitting land.

I believe that life as we know it would not exist at an even split of land and water. Please don't minimize the extreme importance of water. We don't want to be Mars.

It would just give humans more land to wage war and destruction against other humans over, and more land for humans to wreak havoc on and trash and pollute it.

It would also mean there was less oxygen to breathe because the oceans contribute 50% of our usable oxygen to the atmosphere so if there is less water surface there is less oxygen. It would also mean there would be less plants if there was more land, not more, because there would be less rain and the land would be more arid, so that would also reduce the amount of oxygen in the atmosphere and the amount of available food.

I think it would be better if the planet had 80% water surface and 20% land surface, and a lot less humans. I believe Mother Nature is working to accomplish all of that right now as a matter of fact.

Scientists have figured out how continents floated around from the beginning of earth. But it was all the same pieces of land floating around. Could existing land have sunk into the ocean or new land have emerged from the ocean? And has ratio of land/sea have deviated significantly over time?
