There was a video/documentary a long time ago entitled Lions and Hyena: Eternal Enemies.
There was a sequence when the lead hyena came into the pack and seriously injured the lead lioness, and when the male lion came back to the pack after being away somewhere, they told what had happened. You could watch it. The other females told him.
And off he went. The Hyena pack was kind of waiting for this, and when he burst into their territory, most of the hyenas kind of parted and left a path for him - they knew he wasn't after them, but rather, the lead female.
I watch alot of animal documentaries. Hyenas are extremely vicious and calculating. It's true that Lions and Hyenas have battles all the time, but Hyenas are known to run from male Lions.
I can't watch it. I was not even allowed to watch Lassie as a child because I would get too upset if any animal was injured or in danger. When watching a movie, to this day, I still only care if the dog lives.
