I am going to be putting a nesting house for Carolina Wrens in my small wildflower bed. I am debating whether to get one with a round opening or one with a slot opening. I was wondering if anyone has had an experience with either type.

Over the years we've had Carolina Wrens nest and successfully raise their chicks in small bird houses that had small round holes, about an inch diameter. One year they even nested in my clothes pin bag. These Wrens are lots of fun; hope you're successful.

Thank you When we were in Florida, we had a Carolina Wren build her nest in a wreath on our front door. So we put a sign on the porch to please use the door under the carport until the young were gone. We have a pair that we see around our backyard all the time, so I figured I would see if they would use a birdhouse in a wildflower bed near one of our windows.

They use the birdhouse with a round hole that I put up after they started nesting in the vinyl cover on my outdoor TV.

I love Carolina wrens! They are so cute and plucky...and sing their hearts out - louder than lots of birds much bigger than they are.
